great for rain, cold, wind By Arcadia from San Francisco on 05/12/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable Describe Yourself: Comfort-oriented Chest Size: Feels true to size Length: Feels true to length Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought this last November to take with me on a tour of the Scottish highlands, and it was perfect: everyone else on the tour was soaked and cold, but this jacket kept me dry and warm, even in 60 mph winds and driving rain. As some reviewers have noted, it's cut straight up and down, and can be tight across the rear, but I wear a medium and bought a medium and didn't have a problem layering it over sweaters and a fleece pullover. The hood also works well against the rain, especially with the little brim. The jacket also served me well in the rainy San Francisco winter season, although it's not as fashionable as people tend to dress out here. But I'm more interested in staying warm and dry, than in being fashionable here in the rainy season (I'll save my black leather for dry days).
By Kate from Las Vegas NV on 04/27/2009 Pros: Attractive Design, Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Stylish, Versatile Describe Yourself: Classic, Comfort-oriented, High-end shopper Chest Size: Feels true to size Length: Feels true to length Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a beautiful, medium-weight jacket made in the classic Barbour tradition. I wanted to purchase a longer length/detachable hood jacket for safari game drives in the cool AM/PM hours. I haven't worn it yet, but think it will be perfect. Interior torso is lined with soft, dark brown fleece and sleeves are lightly quilted inside for ease of entry and flexibility. Exterior shell feels luxurious and details in dark brown give it a stylish appeal in an 'Out of Africa' sort of way.
Women with longer-than-average arms may find the sleeve length a bit short, but for me, the proportion was correct.
By arista159 from CT on 04/12/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Versatile Best Uses: Casual Wear, Rainy weather, Travel Describe Yourself: Comfort-oriented, High quality products, Stylish Length: Feels true to length Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a very well-made jacket; looks extremely durable and well-suited for damp rainy weather which is what I purchased it for. The jacket is very warm and could be comfortable at different temperatures. I don't think one needs a lot of layering under this jacket. It does run a little big so if I were to purchase it again I would get a size smaller for this particular cut. Unfortunately I had to return it due to the fact that the color did not look good on me at all. It might look good on someone else.
