Very water resistant softshell By Outdoor girl! from White Mountains, NH on 01/21/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Good Weight, Lots Of Pockets, Stylish Best Uses: Sports, Xcountry Skiing Describe Yourself: Frequent Exerciser Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great winter jacket for high aerobic activities when temps are below freezing (no liquid rain). Most water resistant softshell I've encountered and is fine for snow, sleet or a bit of a drizzle. My extra-large weighs 15.9 oz. That being said, I wear a size medium! Yes, you must size up 2 sizes to layer a fleece under it! (Had to return the 1st one I ordered).
Great softshell runs 2 sizes too small By Xcountry Skier from White Mountains, New Hampshire on 01/08/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Good Weight, Lots Of Pockets, Stylish Best Uses: Extreme Conditions, Winter hiking, Xcountry ski Describe Yourself: Frequent Exerciser Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The most water resistant softshell I have encoutered making it great for sleet or snowy conditions while xcountry skiing or hiking in sub-freezing temperatures. The fleece lining is very thin (this is the Lite version of Polartec Power Shield) which makes it ideal for aerobic activities.
Remember to order 2 sizes bigger than normal. I normally wear medium and I couldn't zip it up. I re-ordered an XL so I could layer a nice merino hoody under it.
I avoid softshells when liquid precipitation is possible.
Beautiful, functional jacket By Ellie from Portland, OR on 12/11/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Good Weight, Stylish, Warm Best Uses: Casual Wear, Sports Describe Yourself: Frequent Exerciser Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought this for running on the coldest of days and have not yet had a chance to run in it. I took the advice of the previous reviewer and ordered a medium (usually wear a small) and that is perfect so I would definitely go a size up when you order. It is a beautiful, well made jacket and very flattering. I will be wearing this as a casual jacket as well just because it is so nice. Of note, the zip hand pockets in the description are the zip pockets you see in the picture over the chest area. There are no pockets where you would usually find them.
