I didn't know what a ruana was when I ordered this item and customer service was unable to elaborate on dimensions or styling. I thought it would be like a wrap, so I went ahead and ordered it.

A ruana is not a wrap; it's actually a poncho that is split down the front so you can wrap the front pieces over your shoulder. It has a lot more coverage than a wrap because the back is long and square (rather than draped across the shoulders as a wrap would be). The fabric is fairly fuzzy so the distinctive paisley pattern is darker and more obscured than depicted in the photo. The fringe is also fuzzy, so the whole thing has more of a blanket feel than I wanted. I returned mine because of styling, but someone else might enjoy this piece in colder weather.
