They lack the traditional tongue and collar design, having instead a light elastic panel that surrounds the ankle, and is reminiscent of a climbing shoe. Took these out of the box, put them on, and went for an urban hill walk of several miles, and not a chafe, blister, or hot spot appeared. Can't yet speak to durability, of course.
