Fabulous Trail Shoe with Achilles Heel! By Kestrel_Fire from Idaho on 08/12/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, BOA system cable laces, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Vibram Sole, Water Resistant Cons: BOA system failure prone Best Uses: Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer, Casual/Recreational, Hunter Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Gosh, a very amazing, wonderful outdoor shoe that provides excellent traction, ankle support, and is extremely comfortable. The BOA cable lacing system works very well to mold the boot to your entire foot. So very comfortable. I use everyday in winter going to work, hiking trails in summer, and some limited trail running. The boot is pretty waterproof. Excellent quality (except...see below) and design. One of the most comfortable light duty boots I've owned. Unfortunately - the perhaps fatal flaw - the wind up cam lace tightener is very prone to fail, making the entire shoe worthless because you cannot tie the laces. I've had three different style of Northface running shoes and trail boots with the BOA system. Two of the three pairs have had the BOA cam fail or come apart. Be warned. Northface has been good about standing behind their product. In one case, they refunded the full suggested retail price of the shoe[$] when they were unable to repair or replace the boot. These close outs at Sierra may not have the same warranty. Pretty aggravating to have to box everything up to send to Northface however. Sad, so close to being my favorite all-around boot. I would recommend to a friend with strong caveat - don't expect long shoe life, and do not trust for a backcountry hike where equipment failure would be problematic.
