I am a whitewate guide, and I'm not sure what the reviewer who said it was suitable for non-whitewater situations was talking about. I have taken a couple of pretty burly swims since purchasing this vest, and it popped me up ASAP each time. The vest is comfortable, and has decent storage for such a small vest. Very nice
