Great boots (once they're broken in) By Crow from PA on 11/07/2009 Pros: Comfortable aftr break in, Durable, Great Traction, Lightweight, Multi-Use, Secure Fit Cons: Not Flexible, Not fully waterproof, Not good for every day Best Uses: Alpine mountaineering, Hiking Describe Yourself: Environmentalist, Hiker, Moutain climber Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I've had these boots for several years of abuse now and they are just starting to look less than new. They are very durable but they took many months to break in I was push mowing a .75 acre lot with them for a while before I could comfortably take these on the trail. I've taken them alpine mountaineering and it's like these boots were made for all purpose crampons - like a glove.
The sole is very rigid which is great for rocky terrain but not so good around town... this factor contributes to their comfort off road the long break in period. Also they seemed narrow at first but after break in they just seem very stable.
My main gripe is that the waterproofing could have been better. They require treatment every so often to remain waterproof and the leather seems to hold more water than I would like. It would be more useful in deeper water if the very top of the boot were shaped like this -- instead of this / because if you slip in a creek you can easily get a boot full. Also the toe traction could be better but you just get used to it.
Nice boots, but seemed a little narrow. By Potbelly from Montana on 10/08/2009 Pros: Great Traction, Lightweight Best Uses: Everyday/Practical Use, Hiking Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Maybe a little narrow.
By hikerchick from Sequim, WA on 08/11/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Easy On/Off, Great Traction, Lightweight, Multi-Use, Secure Fit Best Uses: Climbing, Everyday/Practical Use, Hiking Describe Yourself: Avid hiker Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These boots are great for summer hiking. They're lighter and lower than most boots but have great traction and support. I just may wear them year around. They were a little tight across the toe box at first, but I wore them on a 10 mile mountain hike the first time out without serious problems.
