Not the best for running. Great for backpacking / cycling. Seems to work well for me down to about 20-25deg.
I went a size smaller, as I prefer the base layer to be snug.

These are not soft, they feel like nylon/cheap polyester. Since they do not stretch at all they feel very restrictive. They are too small overall, especially in the legs. Sending all four pairs back. I guess you get what you pay for.
