extreme high resolving power By Ted the Explorer from Portland, OR on 03/29/2009 Pros: Close Focus, Lightweight, Quality Lenses, Strong Construction Best Uses: Bird Watching, Wildlife Viewing Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is the brightest and the most comfortable binoculars I have ever used. It almost has no CA and absolute no internal reflection, which is very critical for night viewing. I have enjoy using it for long period of time without feeling tired, very easy on eyes. The focus nob is very smooth with right amount of resistance. The price is high but not unreasonable. 8.5x seems low power but the real resolving power is much better than my other higher power binoculars.
By KB from North Carolina on 03/14/2009 Pros: Close Focus, Compact, Lightweight, Quality Lenses, Strong Construction Best Uses: Hunting, Wildlife Viewing Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Very nice glass, especially for the price. Outstanding construction, with nice features like attached objective covers and postive-snap strap attach. Glass is excellent, but to be honest I expected a bigger differential between the Steiner 8.5X50 and my 5+ yr old Pentax 8X42 DCF WP. I'm sure I'll come to appreciate them more over time with heavy use.
One of the BEST binoculars available By Optics Specialist from Boise ID on 01/29/2009 Pros: Clarity, Excellent in low light, Field of view, Rugged Construction, Superior lens coatings, Value for dollar Best Uses: Birding, Hunting, Military, Travel Describe Yourself: Outdoor Professional Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The Steiner Peregrine 8.5 x 50 mm binoculars are the best buy in optics today. The power to objective lens diameter make these optics ideal for most uses. Lower magnification binoculars are brighter in low light conditions, have less optical distortion and increased field of view. Their longer than average length increases optical clarity. I would highly recommend these to any military personnel going overseas. You can spend twice the money for Swarovski 8.5 x 42 and get the best or save $1000. and get the second best optic made.
