I generally buy a woman's large, or man's medium. The medium for this jacket was perfect for me and I can wear a sweater or sweatshirt underneath as well. My husband thought it was very attractive.
I am impressed with the coat, seems well made, nice tight stitching, quality materials. Warm, feels good. It is hgher quality than what I see of Columbia sold in department stores.
It worked very well for the brief times that I've been in a steady rain, I think it would do well longer but have no experience with it's long term exposure waterproof or breathable capability.
I've been looking for this type of coat for about two years as a replacement for my REI Elements shell coat I bought 7 years ago which was looking a bit ratty, because of velcro damage on the sleeve. I think it might be a good travel coat as well. Overall a great coat for the price.
I'd like to be able to stash the hood, but it does come off. I'd like more internal secure pockets.
By sassy from south dakota on 11/10/2009 Pros: Breathable, Durable, Lightweight, Stylish, Warm, Waterproof, Wind Resistant Chest Size: Feels too small Gear Usage: Cold Weather Living Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: coat is great it just runs a little small through the chest
By CambPro from Cambridge, UK on 11/10/2009 Pros: Breathable, Durable, Lightweight, Stylish, Warm, Waterproof, Wind Resistant Cons: Not Enough Pockets or Features Best Uses: Backcountry, Casual Wear Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The jacket is absolutely fantastic. Columbia simply makes clothing that can last for a life. I've got a Columbia parka since 2000 and it still looks like new after really heavy usage. I just couldn't get anything else apart from Columbia again.
