Nice shoe but fit is a little sloppy By Sparks from San Diego CA on 11/02/2009 Pros: Easy on off, Lightweight Cons: Not as precise feeling Describe Yourself: Avid Climber Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: It's a reasonably nice shoe at a very nice shoe but not terribly precise feeling at least on my feet. I have other lace-up Scarpa shoes at the same size that feel much more precise. I'll use them in the gym, perhaps thin cracks
Great shoe! (not for the novice climber) By Agu from Houston, TX on 10/15/2009 Pros: Lightweight, Rugged, Versatile, Weather Resistant Best Uses: Bouldering, Indoor, Outdoor, Sprint Climbs Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels half size too small Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: As other reviewer stated, right out of the box you can feel the quality of these shoes. Sadly, these are not so good for a novice climber... like me. I just feel the shoe has a very aggressive fit, best for an experienced climber, but not for somebody like me who needs to wear them for a 2-3 hour practice of balance, foot placement, etc. without going through so much pain. So I guess this is just not the right time for me to be waiting weeks for a shoe to break in. I ordered half size BIGGER than my shoe size, tried them on, left them on for 20 min. and even knowing they're supposed to be tight to the point of hurting a bit, it was a bit too much for me, so put them back in the box ready to return them.
Bottom line; I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM IF YOU'RE A NOVICE CLIMBER. I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THEM FOR A MORE ADVANCED CLIMBER.
great shoe at a great price By p rob. from milwaukee, wi on 10/02/2009 Pros: Lightweight, Versatile Best Uses: Bouldering, crack climbing, Indoor, Sprint Climbs Describe Yourself: Avid Climber Sizing: Feels half size too big Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: this is a great shoe that's attracted a lot of attention from everyone at the gym i go to. they all agree it would be a especially good for crack climbing, though i find it works for pretty much anything. the asymmetrical toe as well as the downturned profile is exactly what i was looking for.
the only problem i have with this shoe is that when you tighten up the velcro too much, the leather top folds up from the tension. the fold looks awkward, but more importantly, can make things uncomfortable.
leather stretches a lot more than synthetic does, so don't be afraid to go a few more sizes smaller.
