The hat is a little big (or for small heads like me a lot big) but you can tuck the gaiter into the hat behind your head and you have an adjustable opening balaclava. I do think if you bought the hat as a stand alone item you would think it was too big.
Both items are soft and warm and they have a nice camo pattern. I am extremely happy with my purchase, excited enough to buy a second set for a friend.
