Nice, but not truly heroic... By The Geardaddy from Native Coloradan transplant in Northeast on 01/13/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Stylish Best Uses: Business Casual, Going Out Describe Yourself: Outdoor Gearhead Sizing: Feels half size too big Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I ordered these 'Hero' boots looking for a sharp but understated pair of boots that I could wear with anything from blue jeans to a tuxedo, and these would have been pretty near perfect if the fit had been there.
The heel height on these is comparable to a lot of traditional men's dress shoes, which gives you more options for matching them to different pants without them looking too much like 'high-waters'.
The fit issue that I had was simply too much volume. The arch length was correct for the size I ordered, but even with a hiking-weight sock and a pair of volume-adjusting insoles, I was still slopping around in the forefoot area. Heel slip is normal, though the heel cup felt like it would never be comfortably snug.
So rather than hoping they'll wear in, I've elected to return these so that someone with chunkier feet than mine can enjoy a killer deal on a very nicely made pair of boots.
The only nit to pick is the construction underfoot. If you flip this boot over, the sole is wide and flat under the arch, like a typical dress shoe--not slim and contoured as in a classic hand-built boot. That, along with the high-volume fit, leads to the rest of the boot appearing a bit chunkier overall. Purists might be disappointed in that regard, but boots built 'the old way' are getting harder to find...

Perhaps these Spanish boots are Euro sized. Quality leather dress boots. Clearly inside boots as they are somewhat delicate. I returned them.
