It covers most of the dog's belly, which protects him from the cold better than the open-belly coats. My dog is a 21-pound miniature schnauzer and the Medium fits her quite well. It is a slight bit snug under the arm pits, but not too snug, and although she is not obese, she needs to lose a pound or two. The reflective bands on the top of the jacket are nice to have since she is black and at night is hard to see. The jacket is nicely sewn, has a very good zipper that doesn't "bunch" up. The fleece is a medium density, not a thick one. It will work very nicely for cold autumn days, and warmer winter days. I am very pleased with the quality, and also the price for such a nice jacket.

Our dog has been happy to wear from the first day, he puts his paws right in and stands for closure - no movement restrictons as he runs. He is a lean 60 lb standard poodle mix and is wearing a large. With more chest or fur, he could even wear an XL. Reflective piping is nice safety addition. Outstanding!
