I have long leg muscles, so I don't bulk the way some others do, but they fit without gapping. There's a well-covered elastic for someone with a wider calf. The shank is a bit tight (and I have a narrow foot), but I expect it to stretch. While the arch support feels minimal, I have had no pain so far. I like the look and have no trouble walking in them.
A note: someone with a wider foot might want to order a size up, or look for something with a more generous top and shank.

I ordered my normal size of 8.5 and they were 1/2 to 1 full size small. Returned the boots. Because of the stiff leather, not risking reordering a larger size.

I ordered 1 size larger after reading some of the reviews, but it was too big so I retured the boots for an exchange to a size smaller. I look forward to wearing them this fall/winter.
