They were nice-looking, sturdy, laced in a way that could be adjusted, great soles. I was very disappointed that they were slightly short - not typically a problem for me. A half size up might have worked, but I have a narrow foot and these were definitely medium, any larger in the width would have been a problem.

I tried breaking them in for four hours and discovered that there wasn't a need to -- absolutely no discomfort nor chafing. Walked 6 miles on a rocky trail, with water hazard and some boulder climbing, and it griped well while providing ample room for movement. The surprising thing was that my feet weren't tired at all! My feet were hugged and supported, and didn't feel suffocated. The weave of the laces locks the laces in the metal hooks, making it difficult to come loose while doing activity. This pair has become my benchmark for judging other shoes.
