Had my first SST for 16 years. Used it in the worst Michigan weather. If I get half that time out of the next jacket it will be a great value!!!!

I looked for a truly waterproof jacket for fishing in all kinds of weather, but primarily heavy rains in mid-summer. Where I fish that can mean 70-90F and 1"+ rain in a good storm. Anyway, I tried several cheaper jackets from Columbia, Cabelas, etc., and came to the conclusion I would not be happy with anything less than the best (or close to it). The Patagonia SST jacket is a perfect match. Water just beads and runs off regardless of the amount or length of time exposed. Plus it's wafer thin so doesn't cause the usual build up of moisture under the fabric. That said, it is multi-layered, they're just fused together so there isn't a loose liner (i.e., it just feels like one layer). The only con is that it is pretty short (although it's not designed for causal wear) so it's probably not something you're going to want to wear around town unless it a torrential downpour or your trolling for new fly-fishing pals.So far I've used it Salmon fishing on Lake Michigan and fly-fishing on small streams in Wisconsin. It will be the first item in my suitcase when I head out west to hit the bigger trout waters. Long story short, this is an awesome jacket that I expect to make good use of for years to come.Price-wise, I think the asking price is out of line. Even though I love this jacket there is no way I'm going to be $350-450 for a coat (at least until I can afford a helicopter too). However, $250 or less is getting more into reasonable range for a truly superior item like this. Bottom line, if you demand the best and expect a lot out of your clothing then the SST won't disappoint.
