I picked these up about a week ago because they were in the closeout section, and these are a little more stylish than the plainer ones I've picked up otherwise.

I'm a very recreational and occasional mountain biker, and have been getting myself back to spin class for the fitness benefits, and in the spin room is by far where these will see the most use, especially considering one little gripe I have (more on that later). I used to always wear the padded undershorts under a regular pair of athletic shorts, and that's always a nightmare because the athletic shorts always slide down the slippery spandex undershorts, making it hard to keep up a rhythm, having to pull my shorts up every time I stand up on the bike.

A bit irritating: These shorts, as described, have the undershorts attached to the baggy outer, but only across the back of the waistband. This is actually where my other shorts combo would slide down, so that part works well. Some of the other shorts I have, though, the entire waistband is attached, which makes it a lot easier to get the shorts 'set up' to wear again after pulling them out of the dryer, etc. With these it's a bit of a torture puzzle, as the two pieces are much more likely to get twisted up and turned inside out, and the legs don't automatically realign themselves, as with the other shorts. You get the outer shorts turned back out correctly, and the inner shorts are wadded up inside. I more or less had to put them on independently, which is a little awkward. Once they are on properly, they fit fine.

The pockets, or lack thereof, are a bit more disappointing. There is one single pocket, on the right side, where normal front pockets in pants and shorts are, but it's a very little pocket that I can barely get my hand into. It does have a zipper, so it is good for keys, etc., but definitely too small for my phone. For this reason, I will probably never wear them except for to spin class, where I will have my bag and/or a locker handy for the essentials. The shorts are certainly long enough that they could have put bigger cargo pockets on the legs... that would have been nice.

On the positive side, as I said above they look pretty stylish, and are comfortable, with some breathable mesh panels (the black areas on the side visible below the waistband. They appear to be very well constructed, although it's obviously way to early to comment on their durability, having only worn and washed them once so far.

I don't regret buying them, but would never have paid full price. I probably wouldn't get another pair, even on sale, since other shorts I've gotten are easier to put on, and are much more versatile with the pockets.

Reasons for 4 stars instead of 5: Only 1 small waist pocket and chamois is kinda thin. Right above knee length. Not too baggy or to tight.

Comfortable, light, seems to fit well, good price. Liner attaches in rear but so far seem like good shorts.

Very comfirtable chamois, a little tight around the waist, if you are a 33 or 34 go for the large,
