I'm pleased with this product because it does have a detachable chamois. Though I don't wear the chamois w/o the outer shorts, I am able to wash the chamois w/o washing the outer layer. I haven't done this, but, after a ride, one could replace the chamois with underwear for the remainder of the da... Read More

I'm tired of blackblackblack bike shorts so I bought these bright blue shorts from Pearl Izumi. Based on the reviews, I bought a size larger than usual and I'm happy I did. The outer short fits great and looks great--I got lots of compliments on them. The inner liner is a bit small, but it's okay for shorter rides--I don't think I'd want to wear them on an all day ride, but they can be swapped out for any other liner. The one thing I did notice that was unlike other shorts like this--I did not get as much "ride up" on the legs, which was nice.

As other reviewers have stated, the detachable liner is very tight. However, it is comfortable enough while in the saddle. I switch it out when I am done with my ride, and wear the shorts alone. They are very comfortable, very lightweight, dry fast, and work well for hiking as well as biking - even for around the town.

I returned these for a few reasons
    1. the chamois is pretty weak- just one of those rather thin grey pads
    2. the pockets made no sense to me- I can't imagine wanting unzipperable hand pockets on a pair of bike shorts. I don't ride around with my hands in my pockets, i want secure portals for my keys, phone, id, and some cash.
    3. This might be a complaint specific to me, but as usual in my search for bottoms, these shorts had a lot of bunching at the waist. The adjustment system is a tab that can be pulled and secured with a button, which seems nicer than some velcro adjusters I have used, but it just wasn't quite enough. But full disclosure, this is the story of my pants-buying-life.

These are a nice pair of bike shorts. The only thing I am not super happy about is the fit of the removable chamois liner. The band is elastic except for about six inches in the front. This takes away the stretch of the fabric and makes them a little tight. The shorts are classy and well made. Medium fits and I wear a size six.

So more of the same from a lot of other reviewers....the M shorts fit great and the chamois was way too small, like could barely get it over my thighs!
However, these shorts were cheap enough with a coupon that I'm just going to keep the outer part for hiking or possibly layering over other cycling shorts on occasion! I really like the length, long enough to prevent chafing, short enough I don't feel like a grandma

  • Question “Are these shorts padded or do they have an insert?”

Asked on 10/13/2015 3:32:30 PM by Steady strider from Georgia
    • Answer They have an insert. The shorts themselves are not padded. I had to buy a bigger insert for these small shorts, because the insert was too small, but the shorts fit great. I love the shorts, they feel great and with my new liner insert, perfect! Good Luck!

    • Answer They have a chamois, it's a pair of tight shorts (MUCH tighter than the outer shorts) and they are removable. They hook on to the outer shorts on the inside on each side with a clip
Answered on 10/13/2015 3:58:46 PM by trailwarrior from Denver
    • Answer There are a pair of spandex shorts (see through) that snap inside. Where the spandex shorts are padded, but the outside shorts are not.

    • Answer The shorts are not padded, but come with a separate insert that is padded. The insert can be attached the short with a button and easily removed. The shorts can be worn with or without the padded insert. The insert runs very small... even the M short , which is big on me, the insert is small. But I love the short for hiking and riding my bike when I don't need an insert.

    • Answer These shorts do have an insert. The padded part can be removed from the women's version of these shorts. I found them to be extremely comfortable in every way. I'm 67 and my husband and I bicycled 700 miles last summer, camping along the way.
