5.0 out of 5 stars. Great for Long Distance Rides
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Anonymous from Squaw Valley, USA on Thursday, August 11, 2016
I have used these shorts on long distance rides (Across USA, Pacific Coast Highway, etc). These rides are generally 25-60 days long and daily mileage in excess of 75 miles. I can tell you these shorts are excellent in preventing chafing if properly cared for. My only complaint is that eventually they do wear out -you will know this once you start getting some chafing on your backside (my last pairs lasted 3 years of high annual mileage). Only suggestion I have to ignore their drying instructions and only air dry (keep away from the dyer). Once they lose their original shape they just aren't as effective.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. No Room Inside these Shorts

The "chamois " is in the way, it is so puffed up. Even XL is too tight across the lower hip, making it a restriction to pedaling.Pearl Izumi makes Tri shorts and Select Ltd shorts with low padding and hopefully will design more. Bring back a real chamois.
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Great pad super tight legs
Reviewed by VETMANSHU from Santa Cruz on Tuesday, August 21, 2018
For a top-notch pair of shorts they're worth the money if you have really skinny thighs. They are very well made and the pad is excellent but the thighs are incredibly tight.

I've owned these for over a year and have worn them many times. I have a 34" waist and 23" thighs at their thickest. The pad is excellent for longer rides (>50+ miles), and large fits my waist perfectly but the thighs are way too tight. I would love to wear these on longer rides but when I go beyond 20 miles I feel fatigued from the constriction.

I've tried to manually stretch out the thigh material and its helped some but not enough.

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Good shorts but cuff at lower thigh is loose.

If you have big ham legs, the leg cuff will be good for you. If, however, you have regular to thin legs, the leg cuff will be flopping around while you're riding. It's loose. You can see even from the picture above that it's loose. I didn't like them when I tried them on. Tried three different pairs of varying color scheme but leg cuff was loose on all. I'm 5'11 175 lbs. The pad seemed thin to me as well. I think other Pearls may be better but the LBS only had these to try.
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Bomber Shorts!

Have had these before but the new ones are an upgrade design as the legs are a few inches longer and stay put better. Last weekend I wore both pair (old and the new ones) on a two day bike tour in Ohio...132 miles in two days and the new ones saved the day on the second day! Adequate padding, great fit and compression support. I have ordered another pair!

About Pearl Izumi

Before Kinji Shimizu created the first Pearl Izumi cycling apparel, he spent nearly seven days a week on his bike delivering 90 pounds of clothes to customers. He frequently pedaled 38 miles a day. Years later, after his son received a special Italian-made cycling jersey, Kinji was inspired to start creating his own using the best fabrics he could find. The result soon evolved into the Pearl Izumi brand. In the five decades since, the company Kinji founded has continued working hard to make the best gear possible for dedicated athletes and weekend warriors. From incredibly lightweight Pearl Izumi shoes to sleek, comfortable Pearl Izumi running apparel, few other brands have the same relentless drive toward innovation as Pearl Izumi.
