4.0 out of 5 stars. Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Leader bib shorts

This is my second pair. Definitely a great hot weather short. Love the material. I am 160 lbs, 5'8" with a 31.5" waist and the size small fit is perfect for me. I do wish the chamois were slightly larger though.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Good but not Fantastic

I bought this bib expecting it to be high end, and its just not. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot to love about it. The general fit is good and the materials are good, the shorts part of the bib is well done.

Now the bad, the chamois is not great. For the amount of pad it lacks the expected cushioning. There is a pile of tags on the inside of the hip, which is very scratchy. I'm not sure you could take them out without tearing the bib material. The upper of the bib is not as soft as it should be.

Still, this bib is functional and fits well, it's just not The Perfect Bib.

If you are looking for something that will WOW you, try the Castelli Free Aero Race with the Progetto X2 Air chamois. This bib has everything the Pearl Izumi lacks. Comfort and a seriously top of the line chamois.

I'm 5'11, 160 pounds and the Medium in the Pearl fits appropriately. In the Castelli i'm a Large.

    Get out there!

About Pearl Izumi

Before Kinji Shimizu created the first Pearl Izumi cycling apparel, he spent nearly seven days a week on his bike delivering 90 pounds of clothes to customers. He frequently pedaled 38 miles a day. Years later, after his son received a special Italian-made cycling jersey, Kinji was inspired to start creating his own using the best fabrics he could find. The result soon evolved into the Pearl Izumi brand. In the five decades since, the company Kinji founded has continued working hard to make the best gear possible for dedicated athletes and weekend warriors. From incredibly lightweight Pearl Izumi shoes to sleek, comfortable Pearl Izumi running apparel, few other brands have the same relentless drive toward innovation as Pearl Izumi.
