This is a great shoe, well ventilated and extremely light weight. HOWEVER, it runs VERY small. I would suggest ordering at least 1 full size up. It also has a very strong odor about it. I have been wearing them for a couple of weeks and the odor shows little signs of going away. I hope it will event... Read More

I purposely found Pearl Izumi cycling shoes because they feel a size smaller for most people...which works out perfect for me, since I have small feet (5 or 5-1/2, size 35 - which they don't make). So, size 36 Pearls that fit smaller were perfect.
I agree with the previous comments about the smell - though it's not that bad, it does have a funny plastic-like odor. I also have to agree with someone who said the ankles rub a bit; not too bad for me though.
I love the stiffness, and obviously, they are not as well-padded (comfortable) as the mountain-bike-style shoes that Giro makes. But they are excellent for what I need, and I'm very happy with the colors. Unfortunately, I don't have the luxury of being too choosy - I have to go with a size 36 Pearl Izumi no matter what...

The shoe is decently comfortable, especially with good riding socks. The front is a bit looser that I'd have liked, but it doesn't negatively impact my pedaling. The only big problem is the smell - it is very strong, and will fill the whole room. I had to leave it outside on the porch for a few days to let it air out.

I have been wearing them for a couple of weeks and the odor shows little signs of going away. I hope it will eventually because I do really like the shoe.

About Pearl Izumi

Before Kinji Shimizu created the first Pearl Izumi cycling apparel, he spent nearly seven days a week on his bike delivering 90 pounds of clothes to customers. He frequently pedaled 38 miles a day. Years later, after his son received a special Italian-made cycling jersey, Kinji was inspired to start creating his own using the best fabrics he could find. The result soon evolved into the Pearl Izumi brand. In the five decades since, the company Kinji founded has continued working hard to make the best gear possible for dedicated athletes and weekend warriors. From incredibly lightweight Pearl Izumi shoes to sleek, comfortable Pearl Izumi running apparel, few other brands have the same relentless drive toward innovation as Pearl Izumi.
