Powder River Old West Coat - Leather (For Men)

This jacket, though seemingly ideal in design and tailoring, has the worst collar that I have ever seen in a coat. The throat opening at the front is huge, so be sure to buy a scarf to take up the gap. And, the back of the collar stands up all by itself--as if the hanger were in there. I wish I knew more about tailoring so I could discuss this weird design/construction, but let's just say it looks and feels strange around your neck--from every perspective. Otherwise, it fit very well through chest, arms, waist, and was an attractive weight and finish on the split pigskin. And features a desirable color and trim that isn't too hoaky "western." I really tried to think of a way to remedy the problems, but they are structural and it is leather, so no easy tailoring job. Only other concern, that time will tell, is the strength of all those snaps. They seem to close very softly and open with little effort. They are everywhere and may become a problem with use.

Everything the previous reviewer brought up are valid points. The collar is fairly open in the neck area and sometimes it appears unusual, but the coat is so unique compared to other leather jackets and the cut and unique detailing (i.e. the piping and leather straps woven into the chest and sleeves) made it easy to fall in love with it. I had some initial trepidation buying the coat, but the price (after generous online coupon discount) and my curiousity made it easier to jump on it. It is a very lightweight coat and easy to wear indoors or out without feeling too suffocating. In colder weather, I've worn this as an underlying layer with a heavier jacket which makes this versatile in all kinds of weather. It appears to be made fairly well with two inside pockets, and four outside pockets, cool snap buttons on the front of the coat and cuffs and extra buttons are provided in a baggy. The leather is not very smooth, but a textured worn feel to it that is very soft and not stiff. The lining is satin with no internal flannel layer for warmth. I wouldn't use this as a primary coat in 55 degree weather, but above that I've worn it almost everyday indoors and out. The style level is somewhere between your favorite flannel shirt and a casual sport coat. It has such an unusual look to it, kind of a neo-western, steampunk, retro vibe going. In summary, this is an easy to wear coat that looks good without trying to impress anyone, feels confident and comfortable enough to inspire you to write the next great love song.

This would have been a great item if it wasn't for the badly designed collar that stood up high and stiff in the back and could not be altered. Also, no button on the top so that the area around the neck could be closed. Too bad, it would have been a really good looking coat.

This is a lightweight jacket for cool but not cold weather. It has great western styling for a rugged look. I live in a temperate coastal zone so while a jacket is needed much of the time, it doesn't have to be super warm might like you need in colder high altitude places. This jacket fits the bill. Great for spring or fall it has and old time look to it.
