I used this 5 wt last Friday on the lower Owens wild trout section near Bishop for the first time. I thought it was exceptional. It was light and sensitive for a 5 wt and really helped control line. Mending was particularly easy. The line seemed to jump off the water. I was using GPX. This is going to be my go to rod for a 5 wt.

I used my Powell #8 for the first time fishing an Ohio steelhead river. I caught over a dozen steelhead with several 30 inchers. I liked the sensitivity and flex of the rod. It was perfect in fast moving water, plus our guide had no problems with it and caught several large fish on it. If you like flex, go for it!

The 4 piece 8 weight rod performed excellently on 5-15 pound silver, pink and chum salmon for 14 straight days in Alaska, but on day 15 the second section of the 4 piece rod split where the first section is inserted leaving the rod useless. Either the rod had some defects or its not very durable. A rod of this size and expense should last a lifetime not two weeks.
