I am an avid but simple fly angler. I went lake fishing while the rivers rage on. I am impressed with how easily I could get long casts with heavy flies. I'm sure it will roll cast great. Great rod!

This rod is true to description. It is medium-fast, and is sensitive enough for nymphing, which is exactly what I purchased if for. It seems a little heavier than newer models of the same size and weight, but the construction is good. I own Powell rods from way back when the company was still family owned. I have never been disappointed in a Powell.

This series of rods (I have the 5 and 6 wts) are nicely appointed - especially the red accent wrapping on black and the silver nickel seat. The action is medium fast to fast depending on the line used. The lines which are half weight heavier than ASTM are great for the entry level to intermediate caster. I got these rods for my nieces and nephews and neighbor kids to try flyfishing with and they have no problems with the rod's performance. The finish on the tip sections expose the ridges of the scrim much like the early Orvis graphite rods. I would have preferred a smoother finish but that would have added a bit more weight. Great back up rods or for back country hike in fishing.

For the price, this is a great rod. I use it when I hike and camp. It does the job nicely and looks good doing it too. Better than cheapy rods, but certainly not as light and sensitive as a Sage or a Scott. For hundreds less, though, it is very likeable. Made in China :(
