Got this rod for Christmas and matched it up with a Redington Drift reel. Excellent combination!

The Powell TMX 4-piece nine-foot four weight is a fine rod. I'm fishing with it now in Yellowstone Park, and it's giving me everything I want. I fished it with size 20 baetis sparkle duns and size 6 salmonflies--and the rod handled it all.

Best bang for your buck. If you are looking for a slow casting rod with good action, I would recommend you try this rod . Great for stripping in buggers and nymphs. The slow action is very forgiving if you have a heavy hand fishing light tippets. Seeing my wife handle a 6 lber. with this rod, I couldn't wait to get my own!

Would not use on a small stream but works great on larger streams and rivers. Used it on the Chattooga and Tallulah Rivers and plan to use it out west next month.

I purchased this rod when I got back into trout fishing after a long hiatus. I went with it to give me a decent 9 ft. 4WT in addition to my other rods. Having fished this whole past season with the TMX I have found that it is a good quality rod for a good price. It fishes well, it is a smooth and accurate, and handles fish well. I have cast dries, wets, large streamers, and heavily weighted nymph rigs. The only draw back is that the cork is of poor quality and a few of my reels won't seat as easily as the others.

    Pros:
Decent quality hardware, Nice looking black finish, Slow action
    Cons:
Cheap cork, Handle needs second nut, Just a tad heavy
    Best Uses:
Calmer conditions, Dry fly fishing, River Fishing, Small streams
    Describe Yourself:

    Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
I got this rod to carry as a backup for my Sage RPL 4wt. I used it for the first time today and it performed admirably as I landed a nice 19" brown on Whitetop Laurel Creek in VA. This is not a fast action rod as someone stated previously. It's a medium taper, so if you have a fast casting stroke, look elsewhere. I would describe it as a good rod for the money. Just a little heavy and the cork is not the finest quality, but I would buy it again.
