On a recent 6 day hike our son had one of these, we just had regular MSR saucepans. We both had Dragonfly stoves, so it was good to compare performance. The Primus EtaPower was much quicker boiling water, hence you would be able to cut back the amount of fuel you carry. Every little bit of weight co... Read More

I am updating my gear for my BMW adventure bike for travel this coming spring. I tested a new stove that I got, not from Sierra, it's a stove that uses twigs, sticks and the like for fuel, on 12/23 in the snow with a temp of 25 degrees. On the stove, I placed this new pot with it half fullof water I was amazed at how quickly it came to a boil with the small fire under it. 3-5 minutes!!

It's super light weight so I'm not sure just how durable it will be, but I now know that I have a pot that will boil water quickly.

Now I can't wait to get rid get rid of my PMS (Parked Motorcycle Syndrome) :-)

The non-stick surface is great (so far). It makes a nice lightweight large solo cooking pot. I've used it with an MSR Dragonfly (fits inside but you can't close lid - a minor annoyance) and also a denatured alcohol stove (Gram Weenie PRO) under this pot. The heat exchanger works great, and decreased boil times with both types of stove. Well worth the additional volume it occupies in a pack.

The fins on this make the pot more efficient. It concentrates the flame in the center instead of going out around the sides.
Using a small fuel tab, I was able to boil 2 cups of water in 6 minutes. I am sure that a regular propane or gas stove would be even quicker. Nice nonstick finish inside makes cleaning easy. The size is larger than a lot of camping pots so for the minimalist it might be a bit large. I personally like the larger size.
One thing I do wish that this had was at least a mesh bag for storage and to keep the lid secure..especially since this product has a high end retail price.

The Primus EtaPower was much quicker boiling water, hence you would be able to cut back the amount of fuel you carry. Every little bit of weight counts! As soon as I noticed STP had them I bought one. I will only use plastic utensils on the non-stick surface, which is very easy to clean by the way. I look forward to many happy meals from this saucepan!

Compared this pot to a MSR stainless 1.7l pot. Heated 4 cups of water to a rolling boil. Starting temp of water was 70 degrees with the MSR, 69.5 with the Primus. Acheived boiling with MSR in 6'38", with Primus in 5'09". The narrowed diameter base fits on virtually any stove, probably even an MSR pocket rocket (the heat exchanger fins have a ring of anodized aluminum welded to them so it will sit stable on any style of stove pot supports). The one thing that has really impressed me is how easily it cleans. Nothing seems to stick to it. It does not come with a storage sack nor does the lid fit tight so pack it carefully. It should make an excellent winter pot - conserves fuel and wide diameter rim to easily accept snow.
