Johann Wilhelm Lauterjung started forging Puma knives in 1769 just outside Solingen, a city in western Germany that has been a hub of fine German blacksmithing and knife-making for more than 1000 years. Based in Lenexa, Kansas, Puma Knife Company USA has been the North American distributor of Puma knives since 2009. After nearly two and a half centuries, Puma knife blades are still forged in Germany using only the highest-quality steel. In addition, every Puma knife blade is tested by a Rockwell hardness tester before being shipped to the manufacturer to ensure a superior product.

I bought this knife for hiking/backpacking/traveling. The picture on the website betrays its size and weight, both large and heavy. The knife also has a tough, military look and feel. Not a good knife for what I want. But it is sturdy and has a good quality blade.

Had this knife for over a month now, mechanism works perfectly, blade is sharp and durable. The ergonomics are a little rough, but that's where the price savings come from on a cheap mid-tech knife like this.

I got more than I expected for the price I paid,

Puma has always made excellent knives, but people collecting the various models have driven the price through the roof. Puma is now building the various parts (blades, handles, hinges, etc.) and having them assembled in Spain and now China. An excellent knife can now be obtained at a reasonable cost.
