I will be going out of the country during a monsoon season so I needed a light rain jacket that would for air flow in humid rainy weather. I love this jacket and it has so many adjustable parts to it: the hood, sleeves etc. I have yet to figure out how it folds into itself or whether it was supposed to come with a pouch or something but I am very satisfied. I wore it on a cold rainy day last week with a newest shirt underneath. I am 5' 3", 130lbs and I ordered a medium.

After borrowing this jacket from my daughter, I realized I wanted one for myself. On a hiking trip, I layered it over the Mountain Hardware Microchill Fleece jacket, also purchased from STP, and the layering system worked out perfectly for my needs. If I were not layering this over the fleece jacket, I would normally buy a small however, for this purpose, I sized up to a medium. For reference, I'm 5'4", 120lbs.

I needed a lightweight, packable rain jacket for traveling. I have other high-quality rain jackets but they are too heavy and bulky to throw into a backpack. So they're always back in the hotel room when I need them!

I got this one in the Lavender color, which is really pretty (not overly bright). It fits great and I like the length; for me, it extends a couple of inches past the top of my thighs. I can stuff the jacket into its own pocket (look for the pocket with the zipper pull that says "packable"; turn that pocket inside out, and start stuffing). I haven't tested it in the rain yet but I held a sleeve under the faucet and the water just ran off. I think this one is a winner!

I'm using the jacket in mid-elevation Costa Rican rainforest, a tough location for rain jackets. While it is light weight and relatively water resistant it isn't fully waterproof. I've used the jacket for 1 month and am satisfied with it. It does keep most the of water out on very wet days, but expect the inside to be sticky wet and the layer you are wearing underneath to feel a bit damp. It also does not ventilate that well. The ventilation panel on the back is fine, but doesn't work well if you are carrying a backpack. The pockets are large and in a pleasant arrangement for placing hands or bulky gear.

This is a lightweight functional rain jacket. I don't know yet if it breathes at all since it's been too cold to wear it alone so far. I think it's a good thing as a travel supplement and for spring, summer and fall outdoor exercise in damp or wet weather. I got the XL and it's a snug but just fine fit with a turtleneck or light sweater. I'm 5'5", 145-160 lbs and I was 160 when I got it and have med. wide shoulders.

Asked on 6/7/2016 7:32:24 PM by Patty Gatta from New York
    • Answer Well, it isn't silver for sure. It is hard to describe, very light, neutral oatmeal with a bit of pearl. Not beige nor gray.

    • Answer No, unfortunately it's not breathable. But at this price point, you can't expect more than rain and wind protection.

    • Answer I am very comfortable in it. I have used to a s a jacket when I get cold in restaurants. It has a open panel in he back that allows air to flow through it. If you wore it in the rain when it was warm you probably would not sweat. It is not extremely breathable, but it does keep you dry and is very lightweight. If I wore it in full sun on a hot day I would sweat.
Answered on 5/1/2016 9:33:16 AM by Active Grammy from Augusta GA
    • Answer Hi, it's somewhat breathable, but I used it for warmth over layers so it's hard for me to remember. The fabric on the arm tore on something sharp in the woods, so I would say it's fairly breathable but not that durable in the woods. Overall not a bad jacket for the price I'd say: extremely light and roomy though the hood is a little short on top.

    • Answer Hi Peg. Sorry it has taken me so long to answer. The jacket is not perfectly breathable. It is coated on the inside. I don't sweat a lot, so it is perfect for me. I actually own 4 of them in different colors. My draw to this jacket was that it was packable. I ordered a size larger than I wear so I could put a lightweight fleece jacket underneath for cooler weather. This worked perfectly for me on Cadillac Mountain in Maine last fall.

Have you tried calling The North Face company? I am sure that The North Face company will either have the replacement piece or can at least lead you to where the replacement pieces can be purchased. If not, maybe the jacket piece was defective and The North Face company might be willing to compensate you with a new jacket. That's about the only thing that I feel might be worth trying.
      Hope I was helpful.
      Thank you.

      Hi there,
When I clicked on the image to see if my size was available it showed the exact jacket image that I received in my order. I was really happy with it in fact it had more things on it that I did not expect such as really deep pockets as well as nice deep inside pockets. The jacket looks awesome on me and I have received many compliments. It is so comfortable to use for layering with other garments and great for windy and rainy days. To me, the jacket looks on me exactly the way it looks on the model. Thank you. Hope this helps.

    • Answer The jacket design that you would be getting is the one that is on the model rather than the stand alone design. This is a very nice design and a wonderfully light and easy to pack rain jacket not to mention it's excellent rain protection. I would highly recommend this rain jacket.

    • Answer It's smooth all the way down the front with a drawstring casement at the bottom. If you're looking at the catalog, the blue display is accurate, as is the red one on the model. I think the green jack must have a "wrinkle" that makes it look like a seam about 2 inches from the bottom of the jacket, which it does not have. Hope this is helpful! Ps. I love this jacket, but it doesn't 'breath' in the arm area. If you're cycling, you'll need to wear something that wicks underneath or you'll have very moist arms when you stop.

It was warm/cool. I also did not get hot wearing it while bike riding in the rain. It is a great travel rain jacket. It is light-weight & a good rain jacket.

    • Answer No, it doesn't feel rubbery, and it's only one layer, not mesh lined. Great lightweight jacket, fine by itself or over a sweatshirt. I wore it kayaking over the summer and was fine.

    • Answer No mesh liner. It does feel rubbery, I guess, as you describe. I wear it for walking my dogs in the rain.
Definitely waterproof. I guess you get warm in it, as it isn't gortex, breathable.
But for the price, it is an awesome little jacket. I have more high end gear, for sure, but I do like this to throw on to walk my dogs when it is not too cold outside. I have two - one green and one turquoise. I even bought my daughter one in the royal blue. She likes the jacket, as well.
Fit is true to size. I am 5'5" tall, 129 lbs., and wear the medium. I have long arms and the sleeves are good. My daughter is 5'1" tall, 118 lbs., and she likes the small.

    • Answer There's no mesh lining except in the back where the vent is. I use this jacket for cycling in the Northwest where there's a lot of rain and wind. I've been wearing it on rides in temperatures anywhere between 32F to 40 F. It's only hot when I stop. Like I said in my review, if you don't wear something longsleeved under it while cycling to wick moisture away, your arms will be drenched with sweat when you stop. I don't notice the moisture while riding, which is nice. I really like it otherwise. I don't notice that it feels rubbery on the inside at all. Hope this response helps! :)

    • Answer The pockets are mesh lined. There is also some mesh around the neck area. My step daughter took it to camp and wore it in the rain. She didn't complain of getting hot. It's fairly thin .

    • Answer It has a partial mesh liner on the back, where it is vented, and there are mesh inner pockets. It doesn't feel rubbery at all, and I wear mine all the time. It can be a bit warm on rainy days in the summer, but is still a great rain jacket.

    • Answer There is only a bit of a mesh liner on the back as there is a flap that comes down and have vent holes. My daughter never complained of any rubbery/clamy feeling while wearing it during out backpacking trips this summer. I do not care if you buy a cheap rain coat or a multi-hundered dollar rain coat they never breath as well as fleeces or soft shells so yes, you work up a bit of a sweat in heavy activity. But that's why it is vented. In the couple rain showers she actually had to use it it worked flawlessly. It's a good buy. It tucks into it's own stuff pocket. Make me feel dumb for buying a 130$ rain jacket. If you use it for outdoor activities like backpacking (that's why we bought it) buy a sixe larger so you can layer with mid-layers, but if it's just for everyday are buy your size. It's worth it.

    • Answer There is a small part of the inside that has a mesh liner--around the top of the back. Also, there are two, large inner pockets that are mesh. Other than those places, there is no mesh lining, so it does feel a little rubbery I guess, but it is so thin that it definitely isn't a heavy rubbery feeling. I have only worn it in the cool weather over a long sleeve, so I didn't get hot in it. I guess to be 100% water proof, it has to be the kind of material that keeps out both water and air. There is a vent in the back, though, so some air will get to your body.

    • Answer there are 2 different White Sierra Trabagon rain jackets . I ordered #3097, it says ""waterproof/ breatheable " under its description. I plan on bringing it to Asia so I hope it IS breathable ! It IS very waterproof, and the days I've worn it so far, while not hot out, I was really exerting myself physically and did not notice any heat being kept in the jacket. It is not rubbery on the inside and does not have a mesh liner. However, it does have mesh on the top 1/3 , in the inside, on the back. It is thin and lightweight, and so far I am very happy with it as it appears that as far as not getting hot, this (while being waterproof) is about as it good as I can hope for. (One other reviewer said she wore it to Asia and she was happy with it !)

    • Answer Hello - this jacket has a partial mesh liner. It is on part of the back, and on the pockets. Where it doesn't have a mesh liner, I don't think it feels overly rubbery. The fabric is lightweight and flexible. The day I wore this jacket in the rain, it was about 35-40 degrees, so in that instance I did not get too hot! It did, however, keep me extremely dry and I was very impressed. I wonder if it would be too hot in the summer, but in that case, perhaps a different jacket would be more appropriate. For the price and the fit, I was willing to take a try on this jacket and I am happy with it. In fact, I purchased another one for another family member!
Answered on 11/24/2014 9:01:43 PM by Runner J from NC
    • Answer The inside top portion of the jacket where the label is located has a mesh liner which creates a vented area across the back. This is to allow the garment to breathe, and the vent is sewn down in 2 small places. This is a nice feature of the jacket. In addition, there are 2 fairly large inside mesh pockets that are separate from the zippered outside slant pockets. No, it doesn't feel "rubbery" on the inside, but there is a bit of a "swishing" noise when putting this jacket on (think shower curtain). I like this jacket because it has an adjustable velcro tab on the sleeves and I just discovered another velco tab on the hood which is great to adjust the size of the hood if you really wanted to use it.

I have worn it once and did not get hot at all, but it wasn't exactly a hot day either. We'll see how it performs in the summer in Europe.

It isn't like a cloth, so it does make a russelling noise but it isn't stiff. I haven't gotten warm in it but didn't use it when it was hot. I like it,it is definitely water proof and has a nice hood, it does keep you dry. And for the price I think it does a good job.

When I I use it in rainy weather for long (fast) walks, I'll get sweaty only because of the workout., not the fabric. It is waterproof and attractive, and I am very happy with it.

      2. We do sell some petite sizes. If you do a search for women's jackets you can then use the tool bar on the left side of the screen to narrow your search to see the petite jackets.

You can tighten/loosen the wrists, waist, neck. Lightweight, breathable, and a very good rain jacket. Length is to bottom of butt. Plenty of coverage.

Asked on 3/21/2014 5:42:29 PM by Hiker Mom from Maryland
    • Answer On a scale of 1-10, I would rate this a 10, because it's the lightest, most breathable, rainproof covering I have ever worn. It really does shed moisture, dirt and stains. Love it, and am wearing it almost daily as I am a farmer, and it has rained constantly for a month.

    • Answer I checked the tags that came with this and there is no rating. Here is what the tag says:

Fully taped seams - Thermal seam tape fully seals small holes created when sewing two pieces of fabric together

Waterproof/breathable - Fabric treated with waterproof coating. The fabric "breathes" by letting moisture vapor escape through outer layers while keeping out rain.

Built in vents - Strategically located vents allow airflow. Promotes cooling during active outdoor sports.

Self packable pocket - Jacket packs and stows into its own pocket. Great for travel and storage.

I haven't actually worn it in the rain yet. It is made from nylon that is treated with DuPont Teflon fabric protector. This tag says: Repels water and oil based spills. Saves time, dries quicker, saves energy.

This is a very nice, well-contructed jacket. I hope this helps you!
