I love SmartWool socks. I must have about 10+ pairs. I teach school and wear the crew type everyday during the fall and winter with my hiking shoes. They keep my feet warm (not hot). And they are comfortable too.

Product exactly as described. Only thing was I got the ones in light pink, which I realized quickly was a bad choice because they're not going to STAY light pink, lol. But still, I love smartwools, and you can't go wrong with a pair of these for $7.

I have worn this sock on day-long hikes and on visits to the dog park - equally great for both. On treks, along with a heavy duty hiking boot, I wore a liner some days and not on others with similar performance. The sock has great cushion for medium thickness, not as thick as a mountaineering sock, but it still held up on 8-mile+ hikes on varied terrain. Best news, no blisters or hot spots! I ordered 2 pair, and the color difference was pretty drastic between them, which makes it easier for me to match them after laundry. This is my go-to sock in my sock drawer.

I too wear women's 8 or 8.5 shoe--and ordered size Medium in these socks. They fit fine.

I can't answer your question directly but if you look hard enough you will find a sizing chart on the page. I couldn't find it either but finally did and I wear an 8 1/2 - 9 and they fit me fine using the chart

I would order a large to allow for shrinkage if you dry your socks. You don't want them tight anyway.

Here is a size chart from the Smart Wool site: http://www.smartwool.com/sizing
I would recommend a Medium size sock, based upon your shoe size, as shown in the above link.
I recently ordered some mediums, which ran a little snug. In the past I have odered based upon my shoe size and the socks have run true to fit. Depending upon how you care for them they may shrink a bit. I generally wash mine using regular deteregent with other clothes, I notice a little shrinkage initally but not enough to cause concern.
I hope this helps

You will go by shoe sizing. The large will work

You should choose the sock size recommended for the 9 shoe.

Large. They fit fine even if a little large.|I wear 10 1/2 shoes and I own large and X-large smart wool socks, they both fit perfectly. After a couple of washings they fit your feet just right. Just remember to air dry, not in the dryer.

I have heavier hiking socks and I also have lighter weight ones, so, yes, these are medium weight.

The tag says light weight hikers.

These socks are not that much thicker than an ordinary cotton gym sock — a little, but not much.||They are about a thousand times warmer, though.||I often wear them with a pair of insulated LL Bean boots, which are awkward with thick socks.
