I bought these for a 4-day 45 mile hike on the Appalachian Trail. I didn't have a lot of time to break them in, but no need!!     I was looking for a solid pair of weatherproof hiking boots for my first High Peak climb. I decided on the Keen Targhee trail shoes based on other reviews. I was not disappointed! I barely had time to break them in prior to the hike (was a last minute purchase) and after 5 hours my feet still felt great! The terrain became very wet and muddy toward the peak and my boots and socks remained dry. I found them to be true to size, even with heavy hiking socks. Great product, great price!

    This is my second pair of Targhee 2's. The first pair I wore for 5 years before the waterproofing finally gave out and the soles wore through, then I bought these. I love them just as much as I loved my first pair. The sole is aggressive enough to handle hiking, but soft enough to use for walking around town. The waterproofing is solid--I can walk through streams in these bad boys--and they're light in hiking-boot terms. Finally, they're comfortable enough to travel in--I used to have having to fly with my pre-Keen boots because they either took way too much space in my pack or I had to clomp through the airport. These are plenty comfortable to fly in. I do replace the insole with a pair of green Superfeet for extra support when carrying a pack.

    I was slightly concerned about ordering shoes online as it's hard to find a good fit for my feet. But these were well worth it. They are comfortable, sturdy and quality made. I would recommend them to anyone.

    • Answer Yes, you have to lace the top part of the boot around the ankle and tie the laces.

    • Answer Yes - they need to be tied. They have a clever design that pulls the support straps around the heel firmer when you pull on the laces.

    • Answer Yes. They wrap around the little clips on the side and tie in the front. It's hard to tell from the photo.
