I am >50 and wanted some nice casual pants in lieu of jeans and these are perfect. I was concerned that they are pull on and mistakenly thought I needed the size Large to compensate for the lack of a zipper but found that I was mistaken. I am a size 12/14 (pear shape)and found the size Medium was a... Read More

these pants are just like my previous ones that lasted almost forever
  • Reviewed by GrassValleyGal from Grass Valley on Tuesday, May 12, 2015
I am so disappointed, even angry, with the sizing problems in my recent attempt to buy my fourth pair of Gramicci's (all with the gusset crotch) from STP. My first two pairs in the "Original G" in size Large were OK, but eventually I realized they were a little too large, so my more recent purchase of the Vintage G was a size Medium. The latter fit perfectly. So, for this time around, I ordered Medium again. Too small. Returned for exchange for the Large. STILL TOO SMALL. The Large is hardly any bigger than the Medium. (I am not huge. 140 lbs, 5- 6 1/2", pear shape.) They will be too tight and short after multiple washing and drying, so have to be returned again like the previous pair. At that point, I will have spent $12 extra on return and exchange shipping.

These pants are otherwise terrific, and I thought I'd found the only jeans I'd ever buy again. Now, not so sure. I feel like I shouldn't be whining about extra shipping costs when the prices are otherwise very good, but the hassle and unreliability about the fit are just a pain. Now I have to decide whether to take a drive to Reno to return them to the store (where they do not sell these pants) or...... Sigh.......

I liked these pants but based on other reviews I sized down. They were just a little too tight for my liking...I had to work too hard to get them over my hips so I figured that would always bug me. They are a lower rise than the vintage style and a straighter leg. I ordered both styles and prefered the vintage style so I kept those.

Great pants for gardening but I wear them to farmers market, shops, and even my reading group. A+ for comfort. No woman is the same size two days in a row so the built-in belt means built-in flexibility.

Not my first pair of Gramicci, won't be my last. I enjoy the fit and feel of the fabric. Great for casual wear.

    • Answer I'm sorry, but I really have no clue! I think maybe men look at pants this way. Women generally go with waist size and length!
Answered on 3/23/2015 9:06:32 AM by cyn from KY
    • Answer In general the rise does not change.
Answered on 3/23/2015 10:13:38 AM by Product Specialist Greg from Company Headquarters
    • Answer I tried XS in the 29", 31" and 33" inseams, and they all have a similar rise. But there is some variation even within a given inseam. The gusset width seems to be what varies the most, but by no more than 1/2". The slightly wider gussets made the difference for me. The rise on the SM is about 1" longer than the rise of the XS, although the gusset width was about the same. After trying ten XS in varying inseams and ten SM all in 31" inseam, I found two XS and and 4 SM that fit comfortably.

    • Answer I seem to find that the Original G pants fit more true to size. That being said, I have also found that every pair of Gramicci pants I order fits differently. I don't know why. I can order the same size, and some are smaller and some larger. The difference has usually been in the waist. I typically buy a small, which is strange, because I usually wear between an 8-10 in regular pants. I've actually had to return a couple pairs, because they were too snug. This probably doesn't answer your question - sorry. Good luck, though!

    • Answer I haven't purchased any of the Gramicci Vintage G pants but a size small in the Original G pants is listed as a 4-6. At 5'4" and 120 lbs. I wear a size 6 and the small, 31 inch inseam in the Original G pants fit great.

    • Answer I seem to run smaller than the Vintage or at least they feel that way to me (waist, hips). Could be my build after the long winter. :-)

    • Answer They are 100% cotton, they will shrink.
Answered on 4/17/2013 10:48:22 AM by Prod. Spec. Kevin from Sierra Trading Post
    • Answer With cold wash and drying on low, I have found that the 31" inseam generally shrinks about 3/4" in length, but I don't notice any shrinkage on the width (waist, hips, or leg opening at hem). The length before washing, can vary from the stated inseam length by as much as an inch, sometimes longer and sometimes shorter. Over the years, I have washed a pair or two in hot water and dried in a hot dryer to try to shrink them, and I haven't noticed much, if any, difference.

  • Question “Are the G Dourada pants heavier for cold weather wear? I want winter pants - not summer.”
Asked on 11/11/2012 12:00:00 AM by Gramicci lover for years from Carlisle, PA
    • Answer G Douradas are *sturdy* thicker cotton so they are warmer than say stretchy (rubbery) or cotton jeans. However, you can wear flannel pj bottoms underneath when it's really cold & not worry about closing your zipper (cinch-waist) or bulge.|Ideally, silk content thermals will keep you warmest underneath. These are good all-season pants. Enjoy!

  • Question “Does pant sit at the natural waist line?”
Asked on 9/7/2012 12:00:00 AM by Josie from Petersburg, AK
    • Answer I have a short rise, and they sit just below my natural waist. Regular women's pants usually sit way too high.

    • Answer On me, the top of the waistband sits at the navel. For me, the heavy elastic waistband needs to sit completely above the hip bones to be comfortable. The waistband is about 1 1/2 inches wide.

    • Answer The gusset is shorter and not as deep as the originals. I prefer the original gusset design myself.
Answered on 4/11/2011 12:00:00 AM by enquery from Sonoma CA
    • Answer The gusset on the Original G's is one piece and is shorter and narrower that the Vintage G's which is a three piece gusset. E.g., on the Medium 31" inseam, the Original's gusset is about 10" long from end to end (or 5" from crotch down) and about 3" deep/wide end to end. The gusset on the Vintage G's is 15" long and 4 3/4" wide. This results in the Vintage G's having more room in the crotch and upper legs.

    • Answer I would suggest a M. I am 14/16 and the L fit me well.
Answered on 10/19/2010 12:00:00 AM by Mother of two boys from Boston
    • Answer I'd go for the L. I'm anywhere between a 10 and a 14 in pants, depending on the manufacturer, but usually 10-12. The M's fit, but I have to squeeze to get the waist over my hips. Once they're on, they're OK, but I don't dare gain any weight in my hips or butt.

    • Answer I wear the same size 12/14...but beware on this pant. If the tags read The Original R82 Gramicci G Pant, you're in luck and they should fit great. If the tags read Vintage G Series, they will be at least a size too small. I've received both versions in the same order, even though they are listed as the same pant. I had to return the Vintage version. Just a heads up.

    • Answer You might be most comfortable with a large. I am between a 10 and 12 and I wouldn't be comfortable with the medium fitting any more snugly in the hips.
