I have four pairs because I am afraid they will be discontinued. Though I always use them in the winter as bed socks tucked in to pajamas, I use them as foot warmers other times. I have worn out only one pair in the years I have been using them.

I ordered my shoe size as directed (M), but discovered the sizing info was incorrect. I called and Sierra sent me the correct pair free of charge. I was very pleased with customer service. That being said, this Acorn sock does have odd sizing. The women's sock, size S, was still a little large for my 7.5 shoe size; it was a little too long, but not enough for me to send it back. The ankle part is somewhat tight. I have a narrow ankle, so it's ok. The sock itself is very warm, soft, and very colorful as pictured.

I bought this pair of socks for my wife (who is prone to having cold feet then wanting to put those cold feet on me to warm them up...does that mean I actually bought these for myself?...)
Anyways, the sox are great - she tells me they are warm and comfortable and fit perfectly.
The experience I had buying them, on the other hand was not so great. Sierra Trading Post cancelled my order without telling me. When I called in a week later to find out what was going on, the sales rep insisted that my credit card had been denied. I fought with her for about 10 minutes before giving up and calling the credit card company. The credit card company assured me that they had not cancelled the transaction. So, I had to call Sierra Trading Company again, wait in the queue again and argue with a different sales rep for another 10 minutes about the same issue. This time, the sales rep wanted me to re-order the socks...after reciting the old "insanity is repeating the same action and expecting a different result" I told her I wasn't willing to do that. Eventually I was handed up to a manager who told me that the prior sales rep was misinformed and that the credit card company had not cancelled the transaction, but rather Sierra Trading Company had done it because my purchase had been marked as fraud. I was surprised to hear that they had been subject to so much $8 fraud...but apparently that's the new thing. So after the manager spoke with Sierra's resident credit card expert (the following day) she called me back and told me that they had worked everything out internally and were sending me the pair of sock (and they had given free shipping and knocked a couple bucks off of the price). So, I guess it all worked out in the end, but it took over an hour of my time to buy a pair of socks...which seems excessive.

    • Answer These are women's sizes.
Answered on 8/19/2016 11:35:38 AM by Product Specialist Greg from Sierra Trading Post
    • Answer My shoe size is an 8 1/2-9 but I can't have anything tight around my foot so even though the medium size fleece socks fit I ordered more in large because the medium was a little tight on top of my foot. The large fits more comfortably but has extra toe length in the front (which does not get in the way when walking). That being said I would suggest you get the small if you want a tight close fit inside a shoe because the sock is thick. The only shoes I can wear the socks in are my standard wide crock sandals. The socks do have a stretch but they are sewn close around the top of the foot which affects your foot flexibility. So it would depend on how tight you like your socks. I can't have any tight due to pain. Hope this helps.

    • Answer The Medium is a 7 ½ to 9 (women's) shoe size.. I wear an 8 ½ to a 9 shoe.. and I do go with the Medium in these size.. the size is wonderful
They are a snug (not strangling) fit.. very cozy, but not a tight fit.

If your typical (women's) shoe size is 7 ½ to 8 the medium should work great for you too. (the small is 5-7 shoe size-- so if you are closer to a 7, and or have narrow feet, you might want to consider the small)

These are not regular socks, they are more lounge style, (alternative to slippers, but do not have traction to them, though I do not find they are "slippery).
They do fine with loose boots, perhaps loose clogs, but i would not use with regular shoes.

  • Question “how high do these socks come up on your leg would they be good for rubber boots”

Asked on 1/12/2011 12:00:00 AM by Anonymous from nyc
    • Answer I don't think they would be very good for tall rubber boots. They don't come up that high, and would have your bare leg touching rubber.

    • Answer These socks come about half-way up the calf. Would work very well with short rubber boots (they add great warmth for late winter when it is still cold and wet), but higher boots might chafe on bare legs.

    • Answer I am not a tall person and they hit mid calf
Answered on 10/3/2011 12:00:00 AM by Virginia Daisy from Salem, OR
    • Answer I think it depends on your calf size. On me, they come up mid-way so if you have boots that are to the knee, they would not completely reach it but these socks are so durable and warm that I would try them out.
Answered on 11/10/2011 12:00:00 AM by Lulubelle from Olympia, Wa.
    • Answer not quite half way between ankle and knee. for me, the height is perfect and yes, they would be good for rubber boots. just wish I had had them when I was wearing rubber boots. I am diabetic and finding tall socks that will stay up and yet not, squeeze my leg is a treasure. I am not sure how they stay up so well but I can even put my finger in between the sock and my leg, they are so loose. They are great, will never buy any other winter socks again.
Answered on 11/22/2011 12:00:00 AM by SnowBunny from Flagstaff, AZ
    • Answer Some are higher than others but all are great for rubber boots due to the warmth factor...Great with clogs, mules or any open back shoe...They are about mid calf in either case, I wear my "little (knee length) yellow rubber" boots often when needed in my job or muddy situations in my neighborhood when they are excavating an area...

    • Answer I think they work okay in winter boots or rain boots or any other shoe that is a bit roomy or has laces to adjust how tight it is, but they would be bulky in a regular athletic shoe and certainly would not work with a dress/casual slip on style.
