I now use these pants for all outdoor activities. Never had ticks even from the heaviest tick infested brush. I never get chigger bites from being outside in high grass in Spring or summer. I forget how well they work until I wear something else outside and come back with insect bites.

I ordered these and the Haglofs at the same time and decided to return these because these ran large in waist and legs. They do offer the added Insect Shield protection which is just another prevention step to avoid ticks here in the northeast. Good quality and construction but kinda billowy compared to the more trim Euro version.

    • Answer Insect Shield uses technology that bonds Permethrin — a derivative of chrysanthemums -- to clothing fabric, providing protection against mosquitoes, ticks, ants, flies, chiggers and midges. Proven effective for 25 to 70 washings.
Answered on 6/29/2010 12:00:00 AM by Customer Care from Sierra Trading Post
    • Answer Well, the claim is 70 washings and given the quality of ExOfficio products, I'd tend to believe it. The EPA has approved the use of the repellant clothing but only for garment purposes; so I'd be careful about letting babies or children around it (don't suck on it or strain your coffee through it); and I'd be cautious about prolonged direct contact with skin. The active ingredient, permethrin, is a contact neurotoxin and Class B carcinogen (Class B means it causes cancer in mice when ingested in typically large quantities). For more info on permethrin google permethrin.||The other thing to be aware of is that this clothing really works well.
Answered on 7/6/2010 12:00:00 AM by Rob from Hampden, Maine
    • Answer yes to all--Repellant lasts for 70 washings

  • Question “I am a 31" waist and wondering if S size is right size for me.”
Asked on 6/2/2010 12:00:00 AM by flyfishing from bishop
    • Answer According to Exofficio sizing a S is a 30, but since it has elastic inserts in the back there will be some slight room. If you want extra room incase you grow though I'd go up a size as you can wear a belt.
Answered on 6/3/2010 12:00:00 AM by Customer Care from Sierra Trading Post
    • Answer It will give, but since you are a true size on the upper end it will not give you a lot of extra room. It will fit but if you go up in size at all you may start to feel some discomfort. If you were to order the next size up you can always wear a belt.

    • Answer Mu husband ordered the regular and he is 5'11" - he usually wears a 32" inseam - he tried other brands which were too long - these were his favorite pair, fitwise. You don't want to order them too long, for sure...
Answered on 5/3/2010 12:00:00 AM by Casual gal from Champion PA
    • Answer The S, R, L are referring to the inseam lengths. A Short is 29/30", a Regular is 31/32" and a Long is 33/34". The shorts have a 9" inseam on all sizes. I hope this helps.

  • Question “Do these pants have a liner like other ExOfficio pants?”
Asked on 1/30/2010 12:00:00 AM by Mark from North Carolina
    • Answer No these Exofficios do not have a liner. They are 100% nylon and will be the same inside and out.
Answered on 2/1/2010 12:00:00 AM by Customer Care from Sierra Trading Post
    • Answer This particular pant does not have a liner and I believe is designed to be used in warm/hot weather.

  • Question “The description says that it's treated with insect repellant. Doesn't wash off after laundering?”
Asked on 12/4/2009 12:00:00 AM by Anonymous from Unknown

    • Answer The insect repellent treatment of most current Ex Officio Buzz Off clothing (which I believe includes these pants) is supposed to last at least 70 washings.
