I bought one of these jackets about 10 years ago, used it often and loved it. Recently I was walking in a torrential downpour that it resisted but couldn't keep up with. I bought this jacket because I needed a lightweight waterproof, windproof shell for hiking in spring and fall. I haven't had a chance to see how waterproof it is yet, but other reviewers give it good marks, so I'm optimistic it will measure up for most of the conditions I'm likely to encounter. As other reviewers have said, the fabric is pretty noisy and the hand pockets are in a weird location, but neither of these issues is a deal breaker. I, too, wish it had interior pockets, but I think I may be able to add them to the little mesh panels on either side of the front zipper. I wish the jacket was fully mesh-lined, as the PreCip coating is a little uncomfortable on bear skin, but that would make it a little bulkier.

Wore this jacket when I took my side by side out. It was around 30 degrees and really muddy. Held up great. I bought the jacket for riding to keep me warm from the wind and it worked perfectly, also kept me dry from the water and mud.

Not what I expected. I bought this to replace my old Patagonia jacket that has been laundered so many times it has lost its water repellency. This Marmot jacket was too narrow, too short, and the material was clingy and thin. Even on sale, with a coupon code it was not worth keeping....I returned it.

I've worn this only once, but I received several comments about the bright aqua color. I ordered a medium and the fit runs somewhat close to the body. I plan on wearing in London and Seattle this summer so I didn't want it anything big and bulky. I tested it in my backpack, and it rolls up pretty tight. If it works well, I will go up a size for one to wear in the fall so I can wear thick layers underneath.

I bought this in the bright purple and the color is beautiful. Functionality appears to be great with all the zippers covered and a good fit. It's a little shorter than I would have liked. I'm 5 foot 7 in and 130 lbs, bought the small and it fits perfect. Should be able to wear a light sweater underneath with no problem. Looking forward to trying it out this summer!

    • Answer What are they? They are zippers in the armpit of the sleeve that allows you to get more ventilation. Does this jacket have them? Yes

    • Answer Yes. This is a sweet little jacket with nice details like that for such little weight. Stuffs up quite small and is light enough to always have in the daypack. The zippered pockets are oriented high enough that they are accessible above a pack waistbelt. Both zipper and hook-and-loop closure for the front, handy should the zipper fail when out. Very happy I purchased this.

    • Answer "Pit zips" are the ventilation zippers offered on many hard-shell jackets, usually located right at the armpit or close to it.

    • Answer It is only one way, a regular zipper. I bought it for my daughter, a medium, she says it's a perfect fit & she loves it.

  • Question “does the hood roll up and stow in the collar or can it be removed via zipper or snaps?”
Asked on 12/31/2013 3:43:35 PM by Scott, the husband from New Jersey
    • Answer No, and no. The hood is there all the time--this is not one of those super-light windbreakers / rain jackets with a removable or hidden hood, this is a serious rain jacket.
Answered on 12/31/2013 3:54:55 PM by AK Hiker from AK
    • Answer inner collar but doesn't store hood. collar does keep wind and rain out.
      hood is attached not removable.
Answered on 12/31/2013 6:37:22 PM by rrvol from ohio
    • Answer The hood rolls up and Velcro's into place with the back tab that adjusts the hood while it is up. I like it this way because the rain doesn't get a chance to come into the jacket at the neck. I like it!!!!

  • Question “How will this jacket hold up in the wind?”
Asked on 12/3/2013 11:14:40 AM by lose the 'tude from PCT
    • Answer This jacket is waterproof, but not windproof. It should have some wind protection, but it is not designed with that in mind. You will probably want to layer as it is not insulated.
Answered on 12/3/2013 11:43:15 AM by Product Specialist Greg from Sierra Trading Post
    • Answer Perfectly! I wear it all the time as a windproof layer, even when it isn't raining. (I live in a windy, stormy part of the country.) This jacket design no longer has the cinch cord on the front of the hood to snug it around the face (older models did, and I used that feature). Might want a stocking-style hat under the hood in cold, windy conditions to keep the ears warm...But you can use the velcro tab on the back of the hood to "shorten" it. I love this jacket, and do recommend it!
