This is a great casting rod. However, as a handmade, US product I am rather disappointed by the finish of the rod. There are noticeable runs in the varnish and a couple of very small spots that look as if something about the size of a pin was removed from the varnish when drying. Nonetheless, this is a smooth casting rod. Just not sure it's up to the price. The ferrule fit is also questionable. Good pop, when disassembling the rod but the tip noticeable rotates after an hour of fishing (?too loose a fit?). I got this rod with a deep discount coupon so I'm happy. However, I don't think I'd do it at the over 1000.00 dollar price.
    • Cons: Poor finish, Runs in varnish

A beautiful casting rod. Has power, finesse, grace and that "feel" that comes from a good bamboo rod. However, the finish is not the best. Not bad, just not superb (as I would have come to anticipate from an up and coming US rod maker). There are runs in the varnish, neither tip section is completely straight and even a small mark in the varnish that looks like someone set something on the rod when being built. Nonetheless, I got this rod on a heck of a deal and it does cast quite superbly. Time will tell if it holds up...
