These blackout liners do block light. However, the metal attachments at the top drop down so far from the rod thus showing lots of light. Your drapes would have to be way above the windows to put these on without this problem. In my case I have limited space that precludes raising the rod. Sure you could put the rod through the top of the curtain BUT then it doesn't slide quickly. its really weird how these are constructed

I bought these for 2 bedrooms to block out light, cold air, and more importantly sound from ongoing construction on our street. I was so impressed with them, that I bought them for my living room as well. I like that they hang on their own rod, so I'm not committed to the dark, heavy, pricier black-out drapes. I just pair them with prettier curtains on the outside rod. Also, I was able to get them on sale at 70% off, went through Ebates for a % cash back, used my credit card for additional cash back, and free shipping. I priced many more expensive thermal black-out blinds, and these were just perfect..exactly what I wanted, and for a very affordable price.

  • Question “How do I calculate how many panels i will need to cover the length of my window?”
Asked on 1/4/2013 12:00:00 AM by artsage from los angeles, ca
    • Answer 1. Measure the width of the curtain rod if you have chosen it. If you haven't chosen one, measure the width of the window and add 1 to 3 inches for each side of the window. The amount you add depends on how far to the side of the window you want the curtains to hang.||2. Multiply the rod length by 1.5 for minimum fullness, 2 for medium fullness and 2.5 for an extra full look. For example, for a 36-inch rod, your measurements would be 54 inches for minimum fullness, 72 inches for medium fullness and 90 inches for an extra full look.||3. Divide your total inches measurement by the width of the panels you have chosen. If you want the curtains to be able to close fully, you should always use enough panels to cover the width of the window. Round up to the next whole number if you want to achieve more fullness. For example, if you have a 28-inch-wide panel and a 36-inch curtain rod, purchase two panels for minimum fullness, three panels for medium fullness and four panels for extra fullness.

Asked on 2/10/2011 12:00:00 AM by Anonymous from Libby MT
