I wanted a wsrm hat which was somewhat classier than a ball cap, and this fits the bill. Unfortunately, the L is floppy on my 7 3/8 head (it would look and feel silly on a 7 1/4 head). This is the only time when Sierra's sizing recommendations have not worked for me, so I am still a happy guy. Too b...

The construction and material of the hat is top rate. Appearance is equally good. I like the ear flaps as well. I think it runs just a little larger but most hats seem to be different in what they say their sizes are.

I've been a fan of this style of cap for a long time. I got a Kangol cap similar to this years ago from Sierra and would still have it, but my house burnt down. It's a wonderful replacement and I look forward to many years of use. Definitely well crafted. Perfect for the U.P. winters. In my opinion, it's better then the Stormy Kromers of my youth.
You can tuck the ear flaps into the hat if you wish to have them tucked away.

Gottman hats are all designed so that they can comfortably be worn with the flaps tucked up inside the hat or down over your ears. I will occasionally also fold the flaps up on the outside of the brim as well, and the hats all seem to fit just as well using any of those variations. Even when I tuck the flaps up inside the hat the outside remains smooth, not bulging. Gottman does an outstanding job of making that work seamlessly, so their hats are very versatile. I find the flaps are long enough and fitted to be tight enough to cover your ears so only the fiercest wind can get under them, in which case I use a scarf around my neck to hold the bottoms of the flaps down and that solves that problem.

Up or down, and it looks great both ways.

The flaps will go up, as shown in the product photo. When up the hat fits about 1/4 size smaller, but I felt the hat runs big overall.

Both up and down. The flaps are thin and wool.

Ear flaps up like the photo; or down, when the chill is on... Of course if you are going to wear it with the bill reversed, then flaps up for driving.

This hat can be worn comfortably with the flaps UP or DOWN.

It can be worn either way...the ear flaps fold up INSIDE the hat (unlike most similar hats).
