very lightweight, waterproof, windproof jacket good for almost everything. If its really cold you definetely need an insulated layer. For how thin it is i use it a lot with just a shirt in blasting rain and i never get that cold wetness feel i get with other lightweight rain jackets, your not really... Read More

Exactly what I was looking for. Able to put it to a test during a rrainy afternoon football game. KLarge enough to handle layers and kept me dry and comfortable.

Very nice jacket, hood adjust worked well. Rained the 1st time I had it on, warm & comfortable

Very light and windproof. I assume the waterproofing is good (GoreTex PacLite is always good!), but it never rains here in CA so I can't speak for that just yet. Sizing is pretty standard, I'm 6' and 170 lbs and the medium is a good fit. Not baggy, yet I can wear comfortably over a few layers including a puffy.

Red color looks great. One complaint -- this jacket is rather short. It ends immediately below my hips.

I got this jacket for my teenage son. He wanted a rain coast/shell that was not a bright color. The material is light and the fit great.

    • Answer We have 3 of these jackets and I wouldn't have kept buying them if the fit was constricting. I think this jacket does have the angel wing cut. Check out the description of the jacket on some other sites and I think it may be stated.
Answered on 3/31/2015 1:45:34 PM by SCskibum from Lexington, SC
    • Answer Not sure what you mean by angle wing, but the jacket has excellent movement in the shoulders with room to wear an undergarment when the weather is cold. I normally wear a large in Marmot jackets and this jacket has the necessary extra room for good movement while maintaining proper fit.
Answered on 3/31/2015 2:51:26 PM by Traverse City Tom from Traverse City, Michigan
    • Answer Sorry, Eric, I don't have other Marmot jackets with this "angel wing" movement you mention. Perhaps you are referring to whether the sleeves are extra wide at the top? If so, it seems like the sleeves are just right, but not like "wings," and allow for layering (a thin, ultralight down vest was worn with this recently, and the jacket fit just fine). Bought this for my husband, and he likes it a lot. It's more beefy than the Marmot Precip line, and it seems like it will be a great lightweight raincoat.
Answered on 3/31/2015 4:26:49 PM by Mary from Salt Lake City, Utah
    • Answer Yes, free radial movement in arms like their other gear, great rain jacket.
Answered on 3/31/2015 4:39:50 PM by Mike from Texas
    • Answer Not having any other Marmot jackets I can't say. The fit is snug, but I've not found it confining.

  • Question “Does the Marmot Optima accept other Marmot zip-in liner jackets? All or only certain ones?”
Asked on 11/13/2014 9:44:10 AM by Radio63 from Chickasaw Nation
    • Answer No it does not accept zip-in liner jackets. It is just a light rain shell.
Answered on 11/13/2014 11:16:21 AM by Bonez from Iowa
    • Answer No. It does not have an interior zipper for a liner.
Answered on 11/13/2014 11:43:40 AM by NMHiker1 from New Mexico
    • Answer There is one zipper on the Marmot Optima and does not appear a zip-in would work. Its a great shell over a down sweater or fleece.

    • Answer the seam sealing on the optima is better….being gore-tex. it will offer better protection from the elements. the fabric on the optima is also thicker and just seems like it is better quality. i have only had the chance to wear the jacket a few times but have been very happy with it.

    • Answer Gortex,Gortex,Gortex That is the main difference I see. I don't own the precip, but I understand it's a great buy for a rain jacket! I use my paclite as both a shell and a rain jacket and wanted the "extra" breath-ability that I know Gortex offers. I've never tried a nylon vs Gortex durability study, but I do have a 10 year old gortex "old" school with the mesh liner rain jacket. It still works even with a few patches. I needed a replacement, because it became a "trust" problem and potentially one my life could depend on... don't get wet!

    • Answer Three.... One breast pocket and two hand pockets. The jacket is very minimalist, very lightweight. Not full cut, made to fit trim body style. I bought xxl to layer underneath, as I use it as my cold weather hiking shell too!

    • Answer Sorry there is not a temperature rating.
Most manufacturers do not have temperature ratings for their garments or footwear due to the number of factors that affect how warm a garment may keep you. This item is designed to be used as a layering piece. The following buying guides may offer some insight to help you dress properly for any environment.

Asked on 8/1/2013 9:31:00 AM by David from Vancouver, BC
