very lightweight, waterproof, windproof jacket good for almost everything. If its really cold you definetely need an insulated layer. For how thin it is i use it a lot with just a shirt in blasting rain and i never get that cold wetness feel i get with other lightweight rain jackets, your not really... Read More

Finally a waterproof rain jacket that is excellent for commuting on bicycle and very breathable as well.

In Chicago, there are plenty of rainy days in the spring and a lot of rainy days in the fall as well. A lot of the cycling specific rain jackets are meant to be packable and lightweight for race/century/exercise days, but they don't cut it for daily commuting on your bicycle. Most of them would be either too light for the spring, or too hot for fall and feels like you're just wearing a plastic bag and sweat profusely underneath.

The PackLite isn't really packable for the back-of-your-jersey pockets, but they are small and light enough to stow in my pannier or backpack. And when I ride in them, they are very breathable, on top of just being waterproof, thanks to Gore-Tex and the huge pit-zip vents.

This jacket was exactly what I was looking for. Waterproof, breathable, "single-layer"/light-ish. I have yet to take it out walking in any major deluges or biked in major storms, but I am happy with it so far. I'm grounded in reality in expecting this type of light-heft for this level of waterproof-ness. As others have noted, it does not fold/pack into as small size as other claimed-packable jackets but I am more than happy with how small it folds, again for this level of waterproof-ness. Construction is good, all seams taped, no frayed edges, etc. Size:L fits me well and I'm 5'9" 185 lbs suit size:44. I'm able to easily wear 2 base layers and wool sweater comfortably/snug underneath.

If you're shopping on STP then you likely know all the great qualities of Goretex so I don't need to go over that with you. I'll just say I needed something light to throw on for everyday use here in SC and this is the perfect jacket for that and more. I haven't had a true Goretex shell in a very long time and I had forgotten how well a simple Goretex shell can block the wind.....and as you know, blocking the wind is sometimes half the battle for staying warm. This double layered Goretex shell does a great job of being a windstopper and it is 100% dry in the rain. Marmot has done a great job putting this Goretex material together....fit is roomy where it needs to be and tapered where it should be......zippers roll smoothly but stay tight and waterproof. Since I also wanted to use this jacket for skiing, my only concern was that it was not specified to have a helmet capable hood like the (more expensive) Pro Series Marmot Goretex my daughter has.....however I put my helmet on and the hood covers my helmeted head just fine; it's a little tight in the neck area with a helmet but unzipping the collar loosened things up and I believe the hood will work fine with a helmet. I got a great buy on this at STP and couldn't be more satisfied. 49 yo male

I am a huge Marmot fan, I have lots of clothing from the brand. This jacket is well constructed, and all the seam sealing is evident. However, it is not as breathable or light as the Marmot Hyper jacket I've had for a couple years (The older Hyper which was M3 waterproof, Not the Gore tex). The Optima has a much more plastic type feel than the Hyper. I have never had a Gore tex Paclite product, and I assumed it was packable into a pocket, but it is NOT. However, it is still minimalist, and will go into a small stuff sack (which I didn't want to have to buy separately). I will keep the jacket as a backpacking/hiking/biking/fishing jacket that I can stuff into a backpack, but my Marmot Hyper jacket will remain my daily spring jacket. Sizing in this is true compared to other Marmot jackets I own. I find Marmot a little slimmer cut than Columbia products, but not the "trim" fit of Mountain Hardwear. I could still fit a thick fleece under this jacket in xl, and I have a 46" chest.

Received the jacket couple days ago and it is very comfortable to wear. Nice liner and seal. Gore-Tex is great for outdoor usage. However, there is one broken pocket with missing thread. I have to fix it myself. Other than that, everything is fine.
