Being in construction, I tear up clothes so why pay full price when it's going to be ruined eventually. My last jacket(a factory 2nd) lasted 10 years. This is a factory 2nd and I can't tell why.
Remember to air dry or it will slowly shrink in the dryer.

Runs large enough for a small vest r sweater underneath--love!
  • Verified Buyer Reviewed by Love My Korat Cat from Ohio on Tuesday, April 28, 2015
The coat fits well, is sturdy, comfortable and warm. The fit allows room for sweaters, fleece, etc. to be worn with it, and it is a good length. The two-way zipper is practical, good quality and easy to use--looks like it should last for the life of the coat. He chose the dark green color and is very pleased with it. It goes with almost anything and should make soil and stains less obvious. I expect he will get years of use out of this coat, and he is really hard on his clothes. I can see why it is a 2nd--the cut of the shoulders doesn't quite match, but since that doesn't affect the fit and usefulness of the coat, it really doesn't matter. Good deal on a quality brand!

I love carhartt and will buy one of these just not from sierra. I have loved everything I've gotten from them including two jackets, clothes, boots and gear. But this coat was horrible. It was a second so I expected some minor cosmetic deficiency. It fit terribly and was very uncomfortable. On top of that it feels like they forgot to put the insulation in. If you get one from a store they are awesome. Shipping was almost ten dollars and then you pay to ship it back. I am very disappointed but hope this does not happen with future purchases

I love Carhart and this is a good example. It fits great (true to size) and is nice and warm!

    • Answer According to the labeling... the coat was made in Mexico. The outer shell is 100% cotton, the lining is 100% nylon and the interlining is 100% polyester.
There is no mention of a treatment.
Answered on 2/16/2015 4:38:46 PM by RB from New Hampshire
    • Answer I cannot feel any treatment on the surface. It feels like cotton, but if your son is allergic to such compounds, I would be safe and ask the Carhartt company.
Answered on 2/16/2015 4:42:25 PM by Jkoon from Chicago
    • Answer Not that I had noticed. No weird smell or anything out of the box. I did wash it almost immediately upon getting it. The color begins to lighten the slightest bit after the first wash and subsequent washes, very typical of a Carhartt (I have had a few different times over the last 20 years). Leads me to believe they do not treat them with anything.

    • Answer In response to Wendy's question, I would suggest contacting Carhartt with your inquiry. I purchased this Arctic work coat for my son who too has many allergies. He has no issues with this coat, actually on his second one. This coat being cotton, durable, warm, good looking and nice fitting. Would it be an option to wash it before wearing if you find out that it has been treated? Wish you the best, sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Answered on 2/17/2015 5:14:39 AM by Woodbutcher from Maine
    • Answer I don't think it has a coating (re: not a slick finish) seems to be a 'natural' finish - I don't think the description called it waterproof. But if your son as such a high allergy, I believe this would be a question best answered by the manufacturer.
Answered on 2/17/2015 8:38:04 AM by Cold Comfort from Montana
    • Answer I didn't see any treatment mentioned on the coat, its description on-line, or with the documentation in the box. I don't think it's been treated with water or stain repellant.
