Being in construction, I tear up clothes so why pay full price when it's going to be ruined eventually. My last jacket(a factory 2nd) lasted 10 years. This is a factory 2nd and I can't tell why.
Remember to air dry or it will slowly shrink in the dryer.

A quality-made product, but the sleeves are markedly shorter than other Carhartt jackets in the same size. Had to return.

My husband is 5"11 and weights 185 lbs. Ordered this jacket in a large so that he could layer underneath. Fits perfectly for layering. Would be too big if he was not layering beneath. Good quality!

Been wearing one of these for 10+ years and the tab on the zipper broke, so I needed to get a new one. This one seems a little lighter weight than my old one. But its still well constructed. Hopefully I will get 10 years out of this too.

I always have liked Cartartt's kit and this jacket is no exception. I bought it to wear during the fall and winter while riding my motorcycle to work. I'd yet to find a MC jacket that I liked the fit of and decided to give the Carhartt a chance.
Fit, I went with 2XL a, because I'm fat, and b, because I wanted to have the possibility of layering underneath. The jacket fits well in the waist though it seems a bit shorter in length than it looks in the photo. That could just be my gut forcing it up. The shoulders turned out to be broader than any other 2XL I've worn, which was surprising but not a deal breaker. The washed cotton fends off the wind pretty well and the insulation is warm and not restrictive. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the coat worked on my 34 degree ride to work this morning. Considering I'm cruising at 65 to 70 MPH on a naked motorcycle the jacket kept my core very comfortable. It would be nice if there was a way to cinch down the cuffs but other than that I'm really happy with this product. The finish is nice, typical Carthartt, well put together with some nice, though unexpected additions like interior tech pockets.

You can't beat carhartt. Warm tough jackets. I'm 6' tall at 190 Lbs. and the large is great. I can wear a sweater under the jacket and its not tight. Just right.

  • Question “What does it mean in the description when it states "2nds"?”
Asked on 11/17/2015 12:44:58 PM by Dave from New york
    • Answer It usually means a cosmetic blemish of some sort. I buy a lot of Carhatt 2nds from STP and have found them mostly to be a slight tear in the fabric that has been repaired with stitching. You usually have to hunt pretty hard to find it. It does not affect the functionality of the garment. I just ordered one of these and I can't find the defect.

    • Answer I haven't yet seen any bless on the coat and it fits as it should. I was happy!
Answered on 11/17/2015 4:00:20 PM by lisaleaf from San Diego
    • Answer It means there's a slight irregularity in the jacket that occurred during production. It could be a light spot in the fabric, or a small error in the sewing-sometimes as simple as the tag being sewn in upside-down or something. Typically there's not change in the functionality of the jacket. I have purchased several "2nd's" in the Carhartt brand and have found nothing wrong with them, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy again! If, on the off chance you order and do find a serious flaw, Sierra Trading Post has an amazing return policy and I'm sure they'd take care of you.

    • Answer According to the labeling... the coat was made in Mexico. The outer shell is 100% cotton, the lining is 100% nylon and the interlining is 100% polyester.
There is no mention of a treatment.
Answered on 2/16/2015 4:38:46 PM by RB from New Hampshire
    • Answer I cannot feel any treatment on the surface. It feels like cotton, but if your son is allergic to such compounds, I would be safe and ask the Carhartt company.
Answered on 2/16/2015 4:42:25 PM by Jkoon from Chicago
    • Answer Not that I had noticed. No weird smell or anything out of the box. I did wash it almost immediately upon getting it. The color begins to lighten the slightest bit after the first wash and subsequent washes, very typical of a Carhartt (I have had a few different times over the last 20 years). Leads me to believe they do not treat them with anything.

    • Answer In response to Wendy's question, I would suggest contacting Carhartt with your inquiry. I purchased this Arctic work coat for my son who too has many allergies. He has no issues with this coat, actually on his second one. This coat being cotton, durable, warm, good looking and nice fitting. Would it be an option to wash it before wearing if you find out that it has been treated? Wish you the best, sorry I couldn't be of more help.

    • Answer I don't think it has a coating (re: not a slick finish) seems to be a 'natural' finish - I don't think the description called it waterproof. But if your son as such a high allergy, I believe this would be a question best answered by the manufacturer.
Answered on 2/17/2015 8:38:04 AM by Cold Comfort from Montana
    • Answer I didn't see any treatment mentioned on the coat, its description on-line, or with the documentation in the box. I don't think it's been treated with water or stain repellant.
