I chose a Medium (and I typically go between small and medium) and I can't imagine that if I ordered a large the waist would fit at all. Just not right for me.

The fit of the waistband is sort of odd on me because it is not at my natural waist but it does not stay around my hips, it rides up a bit. I will use them for exercise but not for casual wear since the waistband is also "chunky" and some of my shirts would get caught on it.
