Reviewed by Guyfin from Laramie, WY on Thursday, February 07, 2013I was able to use this on the second field day of my Avalanche Safety 1 course. The locking mechanism should be practiced since it isn't as easy as other probes that we used in the course. This product seems a bit flimsier than the probes the instructors lent out, but it should hold up for non extended use. A nice feature is the alternating colors for reach rod segment so that you don't have to think about looking at the depth measurement lines when probing for a victim.

I purchaced it more for dertermining snow conditions and snow depths for snow cave and emergency shelters The probe is easy to deploy and break down. Seems sturdy enough for it's construction materials and weight. Seems like a great value for the money!
