I have looked for a long time for the perfect day hike backpack and this was what I have been looking for. Very sturdy, lightweight and with lots of room for your lunch, extra layers and hydration bag. The straps are all well placed and I liked that it has the mesh pouches on the side; provides a ...

For the price, you get a pretty decent backpack that seems like it will last quite a while. It straddles the line between a normal commuter/student backpack and a hiking daypack, but leaves a bit to be desired on the daypack side. I will say that it's been harder than it should be to find a pack that has a laptop compartment that also doubles as a bladder compartment, so that's a big plus.
My biggest complaint is the side pockets - they're far too short and don't "cup" well, so if does a very poor job of gripping a water bottle. I use Nalgene 1 liters on each side and if I bend over more than 90 degrees they slip right out. This could present a pretty major issue if you're rock scrambling, or having to duck under something, or doing big jumps, etc. Even if I set the bag on the ground carelessly, my water bottles sometimes slip out. It's so bad that I have to loop the side compression straps through the loop of the Nalgene lid, to be sure they will stay in place - last thing I want is to lose my water over a cliff while on a rock scramble. Depending on your hike/situation that could be a MAJOR issue.
My only other complaint is the pocket layouts. There are two main compartments, and that's it. No smaller top-loading pockets, etc. for easy stashing of a snack, map, etc., which I've been very used to in my daypacks.
For this price it's not terrible, but if the above two things were remedied this would be my perfect daypack. It's otherwise rugged, roomy, and just the right size for most anything you'd need on a dayhike. If you're planning on not stashing water in the side pockets, and aren't otherwise to particular on an easy access pocket, this will do just fine.

This is exactly the size backpack I was looking for. Something simple for everyday, but also decent for the trail. I don't need a school bag, so I wanted to avoid all the extras. I love that the inside is a bright color. Makes it easier to find things when they fall to the bottom.

I bought this pack last year for myself. I needed a quality pack for trips and day to day stuff. My college age daughter borrowed it and wouldn't give it back. I just found it on sale and bought two more. One for me and one for another daughter. Tough as nails and a great value.
