2nds, barely perceptible blemishes. Carhartt's Active hooded coat is sure to keep you warm, alone or with layering. The polyester insulation and windproof sandstone cotton duck have a broken-in feel and make a cozy combination.

I bought this coat knowing it was a "second" and slightly imperfect. Only trouble was the zipper at first. Seemed a bit "sticky" the first month i wore it. After that, it was perfect. Went back & bought each of my daughter's one!

I bought this jacket for those days when the cold wind coming down through the mountain passes seems to effortless cut through even heavy layers of cothing and make it miserable to be outside for any length of time. Of course, now that I am prepared, there haven't been any of those days yet this year, so I can't say anything about the wind-proofing of this jacket (in my experience, Carhartt clothing lives up to the product description, so I'm sure this jacket will be great for its intended purpose). I can say that the quality is is what one would expect for for this brand...this is well-made and durable as well as quite warm and would be good for casual wear as well as work, cool-weather camping, trips to the beach, etc. I'm not sure why this jacket was classified as a second--I can't find anything wrong with it. I usually go up a size for work jackets so I can layer a sweater or sweatshirt underneath, but I have found that they are usually thick and warm enough that I don't really need need those extra layers, and I got this one in my regular size for a closer fit and it is perfect. I like the increased choice of colors now available (got the plum, and love it!)

The one who "didn't need a coat, Mom" won't leave home without it! Also, unlike many Carhartts, this one does not have a seam down the middle of the back, so embroidery/silk screen is possible.

  • Question “I live in Interior Alaska where the temperatures can dip down to -20 degrees or colder. I'm curious would I be warm in this coat, with layering of course, at temperatures at or below zero degrees? If not, is there another women's Carhartt coat that you can recommend, other than the arctic jacket?”
Asked on 10/17/2012 12:00:00 AM by Jasmine D. from Fairbanks, Alaska
    • Answer With layering it would be a good durable shell. I have worn the men's version in some pretty cold weather it kept me warm when I layered properly and had on the insulated bibs.
