Whereas previously he had to carry his briefcase and his laptop case separately, he finds this bag roomy enough to put his laptop in as well as his paperwork. Very nice quality. Love that it's American made. My only concern is the closure: it looks as if the bag has a buckled, belted closure. It actually has a snap/slide mechanism under the buckle (which is nice, because you don;t have to unbuckle with each use), but the mechanism doesn't look very sturdy. Of course, time will tell. The company has a lifetime guarantee on the bag. If that mechanism holds up, I'll upgrade to a definite 5-star.

However, the leather used on this bag is good leather, it's just relatively thin. Aston puts this thin layer of top-grain leather over some padding backed with cardboard (or something similar) to give it a strong shape. I wasn't the biggest fan of this, thus, 4 stars. Otherwise, it's awesome.

Stress points aren't bar-tacked. Wear areas are not protected. Handles are not reinforced. Hardware is inconsistent quality. There aren't any glaring flaws in the manufacturing. It's just that you'd think for $$$$ they'd have put $ into the details. That said, given the 70% discount from STP it's probably just about a fair value. The college boy will probably like it, though he won't be bragging about it, and it's not likely to last him very far beyond his undergraduate degree.
