Pros: Expansion/Compression straps. Rugged/Durable fabrics. Comfortable. Looks great!
Cons: Lack of zippered compartments (only two). Lacking comfortable hip-straps - and the ones on there are cheap and have actually came undone while hiking. The rubber grommet around the emergency whistle broke mid-hike, unraveling the excess strap on my chest.

Great for the price on STP, but would probably go with another pack in the $75-100 range. I got what I paid for with this (~$45 after coupons).

I did not end up using the bag, sent it back in favor of a Deuter Futura Pro 38. My intention was to have a pack of this size that could hold a substantial load (for the size). The strap system on this Mountainsmith was about as impressive as an ordinary school pack. The "internal frame" is hardly there, and is pretty flexible. The waist belt isn't padded either. The fabric seems reliable and sturdy, but it isn't something I would want to take trying to pack for a weekend camping trip (unless you're a minimalist type). Day trip, road trip, and light loads would be just fine. I just needed a more substantial backpack.
