Many great comments from my friends on this hat. Rainproof, great sun hat - does not get too hot. Chin strap stays secure.

I bought this hat for a trip to rainy England. In the past I only had the hood on my rain coat. This time I am going prepared for the inevitable showers. I bought the X-large knowing I could snug it up and that was the right choice. I did not want a headache from a too tight hat. The brim looks to be a nice width, the blue color is great, the fabric feels nice, and I am hoping for a dry head.

I bought this hat for my wife as I already owned a similar hat from Outdoor Research made of Gortex. I like hers better as it used magnets rather than Velcro to hold the sides folded up. My wife really loves the color as it is a bright coral. We did find however that the medium was to small even though she normally wears a medium in most hats. We returned the medium for a large, and the large fit perfectly. I would recommend this rain hat for anyone who is looking to find good looking and effective rain hat.

What's the use of a rain hat if the brim flips and flops if it's windy? Very comfortable and waterproof, but when windy (which it often is when it is rainy) my face got extremely wet (or my arm if I chose to hold the brim down).

If you live in a non-windy place--go for it!

    Otherwise, choose otherwise!

This is my second favorite hat from OR...they are super lightweight and great for keeping cool...keeping the rain off and even better in the wind.

  • Question “Is this hat breathable? Will it get too hot when hiking in the sun?”
Asked on 7/22/2014 8:14:30 PM by des from Blue Ridge Mts
    • Answer Yes, this is breathable. According to the product overview above:
      - Ventia Dry waterproof breathable construction
      - TransAction moisture-wicking, quick-drying and breathable headband material
      - Mesh-lined crown for enhanced breathability

    • Answer The hat is waterproof and designed for wet weather and probably not the best for hiking in the sun. I don't recall the UPF rating for the hat, but I would guess that it provides reasonably good protection from the sun. I am less certain that it would provide enough ventilation to be comfortable on a hot day. I can honestly say that this is a great hat when you are out in the rain. I hope that this information is helpful.

    • Answer Truthfully, I'm not sure. I live in the Bay Area so it gets over 85 degrees about three days a year.

I bought it for the waterproof-ness, which again, is great if it isn't too windy. Unfortunately, it's super windy where I live too.

      Not super helpful. Sorry :)
