Most Helpful 5-Star Review

This is a great pack! I was cautious as there were no reviews and only front and rear photos, but I was pleasantly surprised. I am 5'2" and petite. i have problems with smaller packs looking like a turtle shell on me. This pack does not. The pack has a little more length than an average day pack,... Read More

Just the right amount of external pockets to keep your smaller or medium sized stuff readily accessible, but also has a large main compartment. The belt...well...I'm not really sure it serves a purpose. Considering taking it off altogether, or I might use it while biking if I am carrying a full pack...but the only thing it will do is prevent side to side shift. It definitely isn't substantial enough to take weight off your shoulders. On a plus side, it's so thin that it's really not in the way of anything if I just leave it on. A final note...while the back of the pack has padding and channels to (presumably) allow for air flow. Well...my back sweat profusely while wearing it. So anyways...here's my overall assessment:

    Pros:
    - Appears well constructed
    - Side pockets are durable and hold up to 1qt. Nalgene (Full Size/Diameter) with a stretchy spandex type fabric
    - Side straps allow you to cinch down bigger loads
    - Front compartments (3) allow you to keep your smaller / medium sized gear close at hand and neatly organized
    - Spacious main compartment will hold everything you'd need for a day (or perhaps longer) outing
    - Loops on back allow for attachment of carabiner/clips
    - Comfortable shoulder straps

    Cons:
    - Tiny waistbelt that serves little purpose (perhaps preventing side to side shifting of load during active motion
    - Limited air flow between back pad and wearers back...you're gonna sweat
    - Not sure how well this pack would carry "heavy" loads as stated in the description...I would not consider this a hiking/weekend bag...it's more just a large sized day outing pack.

Got this about 10 days ago. Needed a commuter/school bag. My old Jansport was falling apart and I felt it hadn't held up as well as previous Jansport bags. Due to this perceived decline in quality I decided to try a new brand. I have some Marmot gear (love my Precip jacket) and thought it was a trustworthy brand. Also it was totally in my price range.

This bag was a little bit bigger than my old one, by 2 liters, but I thought I could use the extra room. I love it so far. I even got rained on this week and it's pretty water resistant so far. Most of the rain beaded up on top of it. It seems very durable, and I like that the side water bottle pockets are not mesh (what fell apart on my Jansport bag) and my favorite thing about it so far is that the back has a good stiffness to it so it keeps its shape and there aren't lumps jutting into my back.

Seems like a good sturdy bag, but this is not a daypack!! It is way too big for that!

I did the first review in September of 2013 and am now down grading and would not purchase again. The pack has had light use since the review and in November I noticed a small pull of the seam stitching on divider between sections. That small tear very quickly turned into a 4" seam blow out. Thsi is my first Marmot pack and I'm sure not reflective of the overall product quality., just disappointed did get the expected longevity.

I received this backpack as a gift prior to returning to live in beautiful Colombia, and it is great. I was able to stuff it with tons of clothes and a few books. The outside pockets are really useful, and the laptop space being flat on your back makes it easy to access for airport check-in and security lines. Great tie lines for securing the bag. The only thing really missing is padding on the chest and waist strap. The straps are narrow and tend to roll on your body, causing discomfort. Even padding that may be removed by the user would be helpful and make it more comfortable. Overall this is a great pack, well-made, well-designed with plenty of room.

  • Question “Could this work as a school backpack? ”
Asked on 10/21/2014 9:06:49 PM by Sarah from CA
    • Answer Yes you could put pencils, pens etc in the pouch pockets, and there are two main compartments one could hold a laptop and the other your books. I use it as a work pack.

    • Answer Yes. It has three zippered sections. I have carried my 15" notebook PC and IPad in the largest section. There' is also a zippered water bladder section that can hold the notebook PC if you don't have a water bladder in it. Use mostly for outdoor activities and am very pleased with pack.
